Abstract:
Trance is a dissociative process and those with dissociative disorders have been using it for years, thus are quite skilled at going into trance and why skills in clinical hypnosis and hypnotic language are of great benefit when treating dissociative disorders. This course is designed to enhance your hypnotic skills by providing you with beneficial applications for this population with hypnotic language primed for safety and parts in mind. Applications for addressing common dissociative disorder challenges and symptoms across a phase-oriented treatment model will be included such as: accessing ego states, affect regulation, ego strengthening, managing trauma, enhancing cooperation and collaboration, and strategies for promoting integrated functioning, among others. In addition, the importance of exploring and/or 'undoing' auto hypnotic self-suggestions that no longer serve the client and/or the client's system will be addressed.

*This course assumes you have had training in clinical hypnosis and/or intend to get formal training. However, the applications and language may be useful without the use of formal hypnotic elicitations given those with dissociative disorders are often in auto/self-induced trance states. In addition, much of what we do in trauma work is the 'undoing' of no longer useful self-suggestions and/or suggestions from others. If you choose to attend without formal hypnosis training, please note that you will not be qualified to elicit trance states included in any demonstrations.

  • Learning Objectives:
Explain the concept of trance as a dissociative process and how individuals with dissociative disorders often utilize it naturally, providing a foundation for effective treatment
  • Develop Hypnotic Language that is specifically tailored to address safety and the unique aspects of working with dissociative clients and their systems of parts
  • Use hypnotic techniques for accessing and exploring self-states, particularly those not conscious to the self
  • Demonstrate effective hypnotic language for promoting cooperation and collaboration and addressing the internal conflicts among parts of self
  • Demonstrate hypnotic applications to assist in affect regulation for clients diagnosed with a dissociative disorder
