Abstract: Many clinicians interested in hypnosis say that they want to learn how to “do hypnosis.”  I believe that it is more important that we learn how to “be hypnotic.”  The idea of “being hypnotic,” entails understanding the ways in which we send and receive signals and information, on both conscious and unconscious levels.  This understanding is utilized and woven into the tapestry of the relational matrix.  The goal is to make our therapeutic work more meaningful, more impactful, and, ideally, more effective.
“Language” is a central element of this process.  The word language is placed in quotes as it will be used it in a variety of ways.  At its most basic level, language is a means of communication.  However, when we begin to appreciate the palette of communication, we quickly recognize that there are verbal, nonverbal, and paraverbal dimensions.  We will explore how each of these dimensions, individually and collectively, contribute to “being hypnotic.”
The microdynamics of trance induction outlined by Erickson, Rossi & Rossi (1976), and the core competencies detailed by Short (2019), will be the foundations upon which the languages of hypnosis will be presented and articulated.

Learning Objectives: At the end of the program, participants will be able to:
1.  List the five microdynamics of hypnotic induction.
2  Identify the six core competencies of Ericksonian psychotherapy.
3. Describe how the “language” clinicians employ aligns with the microdynamics     of trance induction and the core competencies
