Abstract:

This workshop focuses on the use of stabilization, the initial phase of the Phase-Oriented Treatment of Trauma (Brown & Fromm, 1986). This phase of treatment is often quite complex, including the development of arousal reduction and anxiety management skills, internalization of an implicit sense of safety and security, self-soothing, control of dissociation, readiness for assertiveness skills, improvement in self-regard/esteem, cognitive modification, sleep promotion/reduction in nightmares, and prerequisite skills for trauma processing. The majority of the session will be dedicated to training techniques, with an emphasis on demonstrations that will be recorded for distribution to participants. The Normative Implicit Clinical Hypnosis approach taught facilitates modification of implicit memory and Internal Working Models that underlie Complex PTSD. This workshop is a prerequisite for the Trauma II (Attachment Repair) and Trauma III (Integration and Self-Development) workshops.
