October 23

  • Organization: Lemke Counseling & Consulting
  • Event Title: Treating Dissociative Identity Disorder from an Ego State Therapy Approach
  • Dates: 10/23/2025
  • Location: Virtual
  • CE: 6.5
  • Abstract: This full-day course assumes you have basic knowledge about D.I.D.  It will provide a brief review of important characteristics to note and updates in the field along with a review of why EST is such a suitable approach for this complex population. Essential core principles to guide your work with complex trauma and dissociative disorders will be included.  Therapeutic applications rooted in EST theory across the phases of trauma treatment will be addressed as well as applications that target specific symptoms common to D.I.D, such as self-harm, suicidal ideation, intrusive thoughts/voices, sleep struggles, negative beliefs, developmental repair, and emotional regulation. Strategies for promoting the 4-C’s will be addressed, including promoting cooperation and collaboration among parts. Lemke’s 4-C ego state therapy model for integrated functioning and her applications of ‘playing with the space’ will not only provide strategies for accessing resources and skills, but more importantly how to stay connected to those skills/resources when the client needs them.  All applications are addressed through an EST approach that incorporates advances in dissociation, neuropsychology, attachment, and the art of being hypnotic with suggestions primed for safety.
  • Learning Objectives:
  • Explain the importance of phase-oriented treatment and Lemke’s 4-C approach when treating dissociative disorders.
  • Design metaphors based on utilization for specific DID treatment concern including resistance
  • Explain and incorporate Lemke’s P-principles for ‘safely’ navigating the unique needs of each client and all their parts with suggestions that apply to the entire system.
  • Demonstrate how suggestions related to internal imagery can promote more cooperative collaboration amongst parts.
  • Demonstrate three strategies that promote secure attachment and ability to self-regulate.
