Clinical hypnosis takes the power of belief and expectation and combines it with imagination, parasympathetic stimulation, suggestions, and metaphors. This fusion creates a powerful and effective, yet underutilized, therapeutic modality. It has demonstrated efficacy in the management of a range of health conditions, including irritable bowel and functional abdominal pain in children.
In this Level 1 workshop sponsored by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), pediatric GI clinicians will learn the skills to start using clinical hypnosis in their practices. In addition to techniques for formal trance elicitation, participants will learn how to “be hypnotic” more generally in their communication with patients and their families. The workshop includes didactic presentations, demonstrations, experiential exercises, and faculty-led small group practice. The faculty has a range of health care experience to inform their teaching of the concepts, principles, and processes of hypnosis.
ASCH-approved Level 1 training is the first step toward ASCH certification in clinical hypnosis. At the successful completion of the workshop, participants will have been taught the knowledge and skills to capably use clinical hypnosis in their clinical practices. They will also be eligible for ASCH membership and included benefits and will be prepared to take part in Level 2 and Advanced ASCH-approved workshops.
