ASCH Level 1 and Level 2 Virtual Clinical Workshop (West Coast-friendly schedule!)

Overview

Level 1 introduces licensed healthcare professionals to the foundational principles and skills of clinical hypnosis. Participants learn how to conduct hypnotic inductions, deliver therapeutic suggestions, and begin applying hypnosis ethically and effectively in clinical practice through instruction, demonstration, and supervised practice.

Level 2 builds on the skills learned in Level 1 by deepening clinical competence and confidence. Participants refine their use of hypnotic language, learn more advanced techniques and applications for specific clinical issues and populations, and gain additional supervised practice to strengthen clinical judgment and effectiveness

Important Notes

  • Participants are expected to attend all days.
  • Detailed workshop schedules, faculty information, and materials will be available online one–two weeks prior to the start date.
  • Workshop materials will be provided in electronic form only.
  • Level 1 must be completed prior to taking Level 2.
  • Approximately one week before the workshop, registered participants will receive a link to a private webpage with handouts and resource materials.
  • Level 1 and Level 2 participants can earn approximately 20-22 CE hours (see accreditation statement at the end of this page)

Clinical Workshop – Level 1

The Level 1 workshop, the first part of a series of workshops in the certification program for clinical hypnosis, is intended for licensed health professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, dentists, counselors, social workers, and those in related fields. A diverse faculty from a range of health disciplines will teach the principles and process of hypnotic inductions, suggestions, and treatment. The workshop is a mix of didactic presentations, demonstrations, experiential exercises, and faculty-led small group practice tailored to the specific needs and learning styles of each participant. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have been taught the basic skills required to utilize clinical hypnosis and begin to apply it to their practice.

Level 1 Course Chair

Eric Willmarth, PhD

Dr. Willmarth is a past-president of the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis as well as the past-president of the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis and the Society for Psychological Hypnosis (APA Div. 30). He is a full professor at Saybrook University where he serves as the Chair of the Department of Applied Psychophysiology and the Coordinator of the Integrative Mental Health Specialization. Clinical Workshop – Level 2

The second step in certification training strengthens skills, strategies, and applications of clinical hypnosis. Part one taught “how to” do clinical hypnosis, and part two builds on this skill set by refining development and adding the when, why, and where to the “how-to.”

  • Introduction to a wider range of topics on the utility of clinical hypnosis (e.g., Pain Management; Anxiety and Sleep Disorders; Habit Disorders)
  • Learn more techniques for the creative use of the language of suggestion to facilitate change
  • Learn specific tools (complex inductions and intensification techniques) for specific populations (children)
  • More practice with feedback from expert faculty

The Level 2 workshop increases skills and builds confidence in the use of hypnosis. It prepares participants to advance to the Advanced Workshop level and Individual Consultation with a strong foundation in skills and principles of clinical hypnosis.

Level 2 Course Chair

Louis Damis, PhD

Dr. Damis is a Diplomate with the American Board of Professional Psychology; a Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology, the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance, and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis; and an Assistant Professor at the UCF College of Medicine. He is an ESTI-accredited Ego State Therapist, licensed psychologist, ASCH Consultant, and Past President of the Florida and Washington DC Societies of Clinical Hypnosis. Dr. Damis is currently President of ASCH and has taught hypnosis for over 25 years. He maintains a private practice and works as an instructor, author, and consultant.

Clinical Workshop Eligibility

  • Registrants must be healthcare professionals licensed in their jurisdiction and practicing within scope.
  • Graduate students must have completed at least one full semester and submit proof of full-time enrollment at an ACE‑approved institution.
  • Full-time residents or interns must submit documentation from a supervisor confirming program participation and completion date.

Registration Instructions

  • Registration is completed online through the ASCH site and requires account setup.
  • ASCH members should log in using the email associated with their membership and select “Forgot Password” if needed.
  • Payments are processed securely online. Credit card data is not stored after completion.

Continuing Education Hours

Full participation, completion of pre-test, post-test, and daily evaluations are required for a Certificate of Completion.

ASCH will honor one registration transfer. Requests must be submitted in writing to info@asch.net by September 1, 2026. Requests after this date are treated as cancellations.

This program has been approved by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis Standards of Training Committee to be used toward Membership and Certification requirements.
