SUMMARY:Hypnosis and Zen-Buddhism for Pain and Suffering
DESCRIPTION:Register here!\nAdvanced Workshop: Hypnosis and Zen-Buddhism for Pain and Suffering with Dr. Dave Patterson. \nInformation\nHeld virtually\, 22 hours of CE \n\nThursday\, Nov 6th – 5:00PM EST (2:00 PM PST) to 9:00PM EST  (6:00PM PST) \nFriday\, Nov 7th – 5:00PM EST (2:00PM) PST to 9:00PM EST (6:00PM PST)\nSaturday\, Nov 8th  – 10:00AM EST (7:00AM PST) to 6:00PM EST (2:00 PM PST)\, with 1 hour break between 1-2pm EST (10-11AM PST) \nSunday\, Nov 9th – 10:00AM EST (7:00AM PST) to 6:00PM EST (2:00 PM PST) with 1 hour break between 1-2pm EST (10-11AM PST)\n\nThis four-day workshop will focus on the use of hypnosis\, meditation\, and motivational interview to treat acute pain and manage chronic suffering. The workshop will train participants in an eight-module psychotherapy approach for managing chronic pain and illness that is described in Patterson and Mendoza’s Clinical Pain for Hypnosis (2024). Participants will go through several cycles of learning the science and theory behind a hypnotic approach\, observing the trainer perform an induction and then practicing the skills on a partner. The practice sessions will focus on learning a module of a complex induction well\, and then combining several modules in a way that participants can offer advanced\, non-linear inductions to their patients. This offers an effective way to learn complex concepts that is low stress and fun. The modern science of the unconscious will be emphasized as well as Ericksonian approaches. We will also use a neurophysiological conceptualization of a non-dualistic self to facilitate both meditation and hypnosis. The practice exercises with participants will be designed so they will be better able to manage pain and suffering in patients but also will find examples that are useful in their own lives.  \nLearning Objectives\nAt the end of the workshop participants will be able to:  \n\nDescribe the difference between acute and chronic pain \nArticulate hypnotic approaches to acute and chronic pain \nDescribe the components of a biopsychosocial assessment approach to chronic pain and illness \nPerform six approaches to hypnosis that were used by Erickson later in his career \nDescribe at least four concepts from the modern science of unconscious that apply to hypnosis \nArticulate a scientific based conceptualization of the illusion of self that leads to meditation training. \n\n\nSpeaker information\nDavid Patterson\, Ph.D.\, is professor emeritus of psychology in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He is the author of over 150 peer reviewed articles relevant to pain management and hypnosis and including the New England Journal of Medicine\, Psychological Bulletin\, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology\, American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis\, and American Psychologist\, as well as hypnosis-pain articles to be published in the IJCEH\, and Consciousness Research\, Theory and Practice in 2025. His research on pain control and hypnosis was funded by the NIH for over 30 years.   \nThe second edition of his APA book on Clinical Hypnosis for Pain Control: A comprehensive Approach was published in 2024 and endorsed by many of the top scholars in hypnosis. SUMMARY:“The Languages of Hypnosis: Spoken and...” Advanced Workshop (GPSCH)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Greater Philadelphia Society of Clinical Hypnosis  \nWebsite: https://gpsch.org/ (specific site will be available closer to the program date)  \nEvent Title: “The Languages of Hypnosis: Spoken and…” with Robert Staffin\, PsyD\, ABPH \nAgenda:Timed_Agenda (2) \nDates: 11/09/2025 – 9:30AM ET to 1:00 PM ET \nLocation:  Virtual \nCE: 3 \nContact: marcy1116@aol.com\, Marcy Nadel  \nAbstract: Many clinicians interested in hypnosis say that they want to learn how to “do hypnosis.”  I believe that it is more important that we learn how to “be hypnotic.”  The idea of “being hypnotic\,” entails understanding the ways in which we send and receive signals and information\, on both conscious and unconscious levels.  This understanding is utilized and woven into the tapestry of the relational matrix.  The goal is to make our therapeutic work more meaningful\, more impactful\, and\, ideally\, more effective. \n“Language” is a central element of this process.  The word language is placed in quotes as it will be used it in a variety of ways.  At its most basic level\, language is a means of communication.  However\, when we begin to appreciate the palette of communication\, we quickly recognize that there are verbal\, nonverbal\, and paraverbal dimensions.  We will explore how each of these dimensions\, individually and collectively\, contribute to “being hypnotic.”\nThe microdynamics of trance induction outlined by Erickson\, Rossi & Rossi (1976)\, and the core competencies detailed by Short (2019)\, will be the foundations upon which the languages of hypnosis will be presented and articulated.  \nLearning Objectives: At the end of the program\, participants will be able to:\n1.  List the five microdynamics of hypnotic induction.\n2  Identify the six core competencies of Ericksonian psychotherapy.\n3. Describe how the “language” clinicians employ aligns with the microdynamics     of trance induction and the core competencies   \n Speaker: Robert Staffin\, PsyD\, ABPH _5_-_Staffin_ResumeRS2025

SUMMARY:Connecting Creatively in a World of Disconnection: Accessing Ego States Through Creative Expressive Exploration (Lemke Counseling & Consulting)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Lemke Counseling & Consulting \nWebsite: https://www.wendylemke-psy.com/est-expressive-art \nEvent Title: Connecting Creatively in a World of Disconnection: Accessing Ego States Through Creative Expressive Exploration\, Advanced Workshop \nAgenda:Timed_Agenda_Template \nDate: 11/13/2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 6 \nContact: Lemke Counseling & Consulting\, Wendy Willberg-Lemke – wendylemkelp@gmail.com \nAbstract: The last couple of years have left the vast majority of people with a sense of turbulence\, insecurity and a dysregulated central nervous system. People in general\, and also helping professionals responsible for maintaining emotional well-being\, are challenged with central nervous systems that feel overwhelmed and dysregulated\, pendulating between overactivation and experiences of collapse. Enabling helping professionals to manage their own central nervous system responses creatively\, empowers them to apply mindsight in order to utilize the ‘gifts’ their clients possess in an ethical manner. As mental wellness practitioners\, the challenge is to render support that initiates containing movement\, in order to explore Ego States\, as a neurophysiological and psychological manifestation of the autonomic nervous system response. Utilising the ‘gifts’ implicit to the symptom presented by the client\, greater compassionate connection is established which enhances the sense of safety and stabilisation. Using the ladder of activation (as described by Deb Dana) different degrees of activation will be explored and ideas shared as to how connection between the energy parts can be established through a variety of expressive arts activities requiring low skill high sensitivity. This workshop will therefore make use of Expressive Arts applied therapeutically\, referring to art creation\, sound and voice\, movement/dance\, creative writing/poetry\, and playfulness as a bottom-up approach within various contexts such as psychotherapy and counselling (Malchiodi\, 2005). \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUtilize breathing through creative engagement to bring awareness to the body.\nCreate a sense of safety to enable containment in the face of activation using sensory awareness through connection with the external and internal world.\nEngage with bodily sensations related to the ladder of activation for self- and co-regulation.\nExplore Ego States in relation to autonomic nervous system (ANS) activation and dysregulation.\nDemonstrate expressive movement for grounding\, stabilization\, and inter- and intrapersonal connection.\n\nSpeaker Info: Elzette Fritz is a registered Educational Psychologist in private practice and supervisor in the Department of Educational Psychology\, at the University of Johannesburg\, South Africa. She was the coordinator for the Masters Educational psychology programme with lecturing responsibilities in therapeutic interventions and counselling skills in the Department of Educational psychology\, University of Johannesburg\, for nine years. Elzette was a part-time lecturer at the South African College for Applied Psychology. She is a fellow director of MEISA (Milton Ericksonian Institute of South Africa) that provides training to professionals in Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Ego State therapy and previous president of SAPSAC (South African Professional Society for the Abuse of Children). She is an international accredited Ego States therapist\, trainer and supervisor. Elzette has been trained through the Milton Ericksonian Institute of South Africa in Ericksonian and Ego States psychotherapeutic approaches and she is passionate about creative expressive arts in psychotherapy\, acknowledging somatic experiences. Elzette completed an Expressive Arts Coaching course presented by Markus Alexander\, PhD\, Founder of Expressive Arts Without Borders and Director of World Arts Organization\, during 2023. She has presented at international and national conferences on the utilization of Ericksonian principles in conjunction with Ego States therapy\, especially utilizing creative expressive arts in psychotherapy. SUMMARY:ASCH Level 1 & Level 2 Workshop
DESCRIPTION:ASCH Level 1 & Level 2 Workshop  \nThursday\, November 13th – Sunday\, November 16th     \nOur Clinical Hypnosis training program offers a progressive series of workshops designed to equip licensed health professionals with skills to incorporate clinical hypnosis into their practices. In the Level 1 workshop\, participants learn the foundational principles and techniques of hypnosis\, including inductions\, suggestions\, and therapeutic strategies\, guided by experienced faculty from various health disciplines. This course blends presentations\, demonstrations\, and hands-on practice to provide basic skills for immediate application. Building on this foundation\, the Level 2 workshop delves deeper into clinical hypnosis\, expanding on “how to” by adding the “when\, why\, and where” for techniques\, especially for specific populations and complex cases like pain and anxiety management. Advanced skills such as complex inductions and the nuanced use of suggestion language are explored with expert feedback. For those seeking continued growth\, Advanced Workshops offered throughout the year cover specialized topics\, including behavioral medicine and mind-body integration\, enabling participants to further enhance and apply their skills in targeted areas. Each level builds confidence\, competence\, and the ability to provide patient-centered\, integrative care  \nImportant Notes  \n\nRegister for only ONE Workshop – Participants are expected to attend all days. \n\n\nDetailed workshop schedules\, faculty and other materials will be available to participants\, online\, two weeks before the start date.  Workshop materials will be available in electronic form only. \n\n\nYou must complete Level 1 prior to taking Level 2. \n\n\nApproximately one week before the workshop\, registered participants will receive a link to a private webpage that will include links to handouts and resource materials.  This access will be good for seven days after the workshop has been completed.  Note: workshop handouts can be approximately 200+ pages for Level 1; 150+ pages for Level 2; and 100+ pages for Advanced.  \n\nClinical Workshop Level 1  \nThe Level 1 workshop\, the first part of a series of workshops in the certification program for clinical hypnosis\, is intended for licensed health professionals including physicians\, nurses\, psychologists\, dentists\, counselors\, social workers\, and those in related fields. SUMMARY:The Use of Ventral Vagal Tone Enhancement Exercises to Facilitate Clinical Hypnosis (5 Simple Practices to Increase Inner Safety and Calmness) (NESCH)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: New England Society of Clinical Hypnosis  \nWebsite: http://www.nesch.org/   \nEvent Title:  The Use of Ventral Vagal Tone Enhancement Exercises to Facilitate Clinical Hypnosis (5 Simple Practices to Increase Inner Safety and Calmness)  \nAgenda:  NESCH_Quarterly_11-16-25_Objectives__Schedule__Articles.docx \nDates: 11/16/25 10am –1:10pm EST  \nLocation: Virtual  \nCE: 3.0  \nContact : neschmsc@gmail.com – Staisha Stephens-Brown  \nAbstract: Clinical Hypnosis is a wonderful tool to enhance almost any interaction between human beings and is particularly useful in helping practitioners to alleviate physical\, mental\, emotional\, spiritual\, and social suffering. At this time\, in which the social/political context-both in our country and in the world-is so chaotic\, fearful\, divisive\, and intense\, the contextual stress can intensify the suffering that individual patients/clients have from their specific issues. Exercises that enhance ventral vagal nervous system tone can biologically\, quickly lower the intensity of stress a person is experiencing\, and can allow easier utilization of Clinical Hypnosis techniques for healing specific personal issues. In this 3-hour workshop\, attendees will learn five simple exercises to increase ventral vagal tone\, each with immediate effects on enhancing calmness and inner safety and enabling the utilization of and effects of Clinical Hypnosis.  \nLearning Objectives: (appropriate for all levels)  \n\n Identify the key components of the Autonomic Nervous System \nDescribe the Polyvagal Theory \nDemonstrate five exercises designed to enhance ventral vagal tone \nApply Ventral Vagal Exercises to specific clients/patients to enhance Clinical Hypnosis sessions. \n\nSpeaker info: Harvey Zarren\, MD\, ABPP — HZ_CV

SUMMARY:Adaptive Experiential Theory of Hypnosis: A Resource for Clinicians (CTSCH)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Central Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis  \nWebsite: https://www.ctsch.com/   \nEvent Title:  Adaptive Experiential Theory of Hypnosis: A Resource for Clinicians\, Advanced Workshop  \nAgenda:  Timed_Agend1 \nDates: 11/21/2025 \, 1-3pm CT \nLocation: Virtual  \nCE: 2  \nContact : Jana Jung-Woelfl\, ctsch@ctsch.com  \nAbstract: This presentation will explore a recently proposed theory of hypnosis called the adaptive experiential theory. This new theory is a dual-process model that provides a comprehensive understanding of the rational system and the experiential system. While these two systems work together in synergy\, they function quite differently in terms of their characteristics and methods. The rational system is influenced by logic and reason\, demands significant cognitive resources\, and operates with concentrated effort. On the other hand\, the experiential system is powered by emotions\, relies on associations\, and encodes reality through images and feelings effortlessly. According to the adaptive experiential theory\, the ability to engage in complex hypnotic responses can be attributed to an individual’s capacity to adaptively shift from processing predominantly via rational system to the experiential system. Having a stronger association with the experiential system leads to changes in how reality is processed\, enabling hypnotic suggestions to be internalized\, reified\, and put into action with less interference from the rational system. This presentation will focus on the implications this theory has for the clinical use of hypnosis emphasizing the idea that content and language of hypnotic suggestions matter.  \nLearning Objectives:  \n\n Identify and describe the rational system and the experiential system and describe at least three core differences between the two systems.\n2. Describe how the rational system and experiential system are related to hypnosis and hypnotic phenomena. \n3.Demonstrate the ability to generate hypnotic suggestions according to whether they are rational-system-oriented or experiential-system-oriented. \n4. Describe how accessing and working with the experiential system via hypnosis in therapy can be applied to various presenting concerns. \n\nSpeaker info: Cameron Alldredge\, PhD : Alldredge_CV_2025

SUMMARY:Enhancing Hope through Strategic Hypnotic Suggestion (MSCH)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis MSCH  \nWebsite: https://www.msch.us/education/2025-rosenthal-retreat/  \nEvent Title:  Enhancing Hope through Strategic Hypnotic Suggestion  \nAgenda:   \nDates: 11/22/2025  \nLocation: Virtual  \nCE: 6   \nContact : deb@msch.us — Deb Schrobilgen  \nAbstract: Workshop is designed to enhance the participants’ understanding of the nature of suffering and grief in the face of persistent physical and/or psychological distress\, and employ skillful hypnotic strategies to foster hopeful expectancy. The nature of ongoing symptoms and distress often result in a ‘negative set’ that of itself impairs the ability to fully engage in therapy and limits hope for lasting improvement. We will explore the model of pain\, discuss the nervous system’s response to ongoing distress\, and offer a model for hypnotic suggestion to strategically alter perception and meaning-making involved in this process. Specific methodologies to ‘deconstruct’ the negative mental set that commonly accompanies chronic and intractable symptoms such as pain\, anxiety\, and depression will be discussed\, including specific hypnotic approaches to challenge negative self-talk\, to interrupt negative loops in thinking or feeling states\, and to offer greater distance from or qualitative awareness of such perception. This stepped approach enhances self-efficacy and offers opportunities to significantly improve one’s mental set\, which can enhance therapeutic progress and foster a more hopeful and engaged patient in the healing process.  \nLearning Objectives: By the end of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe the difference between acute\, chronic\, and intractable\nDescribe critical components of a biopsychosocial assessment approach to chronic pain and illness\nIdentify hypnotic approaches for chronic pain that provide strategic support for hope when cure is no longer thought to be possible\nDescribe four hypnotic approaches to strategically reinforce and/or redefine hope while also addressing chronic symptoms and illness\nDescribe the current concepts of the unconscious that apply directly to hypnosis in order to facilitate the making of meaning in order to lessen suffering \n\nSpeaker info: DAN HANDEL\, MD Dan_Handel__MD_Bio
