SUMMARY:Utilizing Hypnosis in the Treatment of Narcissistic Wounds in Psychotherapy: A Relational Approach (Eric Spiegel\, Ph.D.)
DESCRIPTION:Website: https://www.ericspiegelphd.com/training/ \nEvent Title: Utilizing Hypnosis in the Treatment of Narcissistic Wounds in Psychotherapy: A Relational Approach \nDates: 11/1/24\, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM EDT \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 4.0 \nContact: Eric Spiegel\, Ph.D. <espiegelphd@gmail.com> \nAbstract:\nThe dimension of narcissism influences a wide-range of character presentations and treatment issues occurring in psychotherapy in our modern age. Although clinical and public attention is often focused on the categorically-derived DSM-V diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder\, narcissistic wounds stemming from attachment failures are a more frequent occurrence in the development of the self. These arrests in the full formation of the self and their subsequent re-appearance in later relationship interactions are often referenced in a wide range of treatments.\nIn this workshop\, we will consider how Kohut’s self psychology and current innovations in attachment theory can help us understand narcissistic wounds and treatment issues across the dimension of narcissism. Further\, we will focus on the role that hypnosis can play in a relationally attuned therapeutic relationship towards facilitating attachment repair in patients with developmental arrests associated with narcissistic wounds (e.g. false-self identify formation\, affect dysregulation\, boundary difficulties\, etc.). Through a mixture of didactic and experiential training\, participants will develop increased competency in (1) understanding how the therapeutic relationship in general\, and clinical hypnosis from an attachment frame in particular\, can be utilized to re-build developmental structure and re-engage reflective functioning in this population of patients and (2) utilizing specific applications of clinical hypnosis towards this aim. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIdentify the diagnostic features of narcissistic wounds.\nExplain how to implement a relational approach featuring hypnosis towards treating narcissistic wounds.\nUtilize 3 hypnotic interventions to regulate affect during “triggers” of narcissistic wounds.\nDevelop 3 hypnotic scenes that fit narcissistic identity presentation (e.g. false self) and facilitate developmental repair.

SUMMARY:Hypnosis in the Treatment of Complex Trauma and Dissociation (New England Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: New England Society of Clinical Hypnosis \nWebsite: www.nesch.org \nEvent Title: Hypnosis in the Treatment of Complex Trauma and Dissociation \nDates: November 3\, 2024 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 3.0 \nContact: neschMSC@gmail.com \nAbstract:\nTreatment of clients with a complex trauma history and/or with dissociative parts presents unique clinical challenges in every phase of trauma treatment. How do we navigate questions of treatment planning and where to start? When is a client ready for trauma processing? How do we invite access to traumatic material without triggering a crisis or switching? In this workshop\, learn through a combination of didactic content and experiential exercises how teaching clients with cPTSD and/or structural dissociation two key skills early in treatment fosters a sense of inner safety and lays the foundation for healing from past trauma\, while hedging against the two most common reasons for treatment failure. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nList the 5 symptoms of dissociation and 3 disturbances in self-organization in cPTSD\nSummarize current treatment guidelines for cPTSDSummarize clinical challenges posed by insecure attachment\nDemonstrate the two critical skills of present orienting and maintaining dual awareness\nMinimize the risk of re-traumatization during trauma reprocessing

SUMMARY:"Ancestral and Past Life Trauma" - An Extended Application of LeCron and Cheek's "Past Experience" Common Cause: Past Life Therapy\, Trauma\, and the Spiritual/Transpersonal (The Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: The Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis (FSCH) \nWebsite: https://www.fsch.org/workshops/intermediate-workshop \nEvent Title: “Ancestral and Past Life Trauma” – An Extended Application of LeCron and Cheek’s “Past Experience” Common Cause: Past Life Therapy\, Trauma\, and the Spiritual/Transpersonal \nDates: 11/09/2024 – 11/10/2024 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 12.0 \nContact: Marie Wilson\, mariefsch@aol.com \nAbstract:\nThis didactic\, experiential workshop will address the successful utilization of hypnotic regression techniques in resolving/reducing a variety of chronic physiological\, cognitive\, and emotional issues when ideomotor signaling indicated the origin of the symptom/issue was linked to a trauma reportedly experienced during a “past life.” A theoretical basis and definition of “past life therapy” (PLT) will be presented which incorporates traditional concepts of family/systems theory\, CBT\, and trauma treatment. PLT protocols will be presented. Participants will have opportunities to experience a regression. They will be introduced to 60 years of research related to children who spontaneously remember a previous life. Alternative models which view the (PLT) experiences as purely fictional/metaphorical will also be presented. Using case transcripts of hypnotic experiences of the “past life” type\, participants will be asked to consider alternative theoretical models to explain the observed therapeutic effectiveness. We will present as models for consideration: (a) a model that relies on reincarnation as an explanatory factor\, (b) a “waking dream” model that assumes the experiences are purely fictional/metaphorical creations of the client’s unconscious\, and (c) indigenous medicine practices and constructs of “soul.”The topic of intuition will also be addressed; definitions\, examples of different types\, and how the use of intuition can be incorporated into PLT practice. We will address differentiating the subset of clients for whom the treatment approach would be contraindicated\, ways to discuss different theoretical bases underlying the technique with clients\, and the critical role of ideomotor signaling as a diagnostic component. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nArticulate a theoretical model to help explain how an event from a different lifetime could contribute significantly to a presenting symptom.\nUse ideomotor signaling/muscle testing to explore LeCron and Cheek’s “Past Experience” factor to rule out events from a different lifetime that are contributing significantly to a presenting symptom.\nExpand conceptualization of alternate causes of symptoms with a 4-dimensional model that adds to participants’ existing constructs for intra/interpersonal psychotherapy.\nList two or more symptoms (Axis I\, II\, and III) for which this approach has been shown to be useful.\nDiscuss applications of two classic trauma treatment strategies and CBT to such situations.\nUse hypnosis to have the client’s mind generate fictional/metaphorical dream-like imagery that can be utilized to reduce or eliminate a presenting symptom.\nIncorporate NDE-type phenomena when they emerge in the client’s experience.\nDifferentiate two types of clients for whom this approach might be contra-indicated.

SUMMARY:Hypnosis and Zen Buddhism in the Treatment of Pain and Suffering (Greater Philadelphia Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Greater Philadelphia Society of Clinical Hypnosis \nWebsite: https://gpsch.org/event/hypnosis-zen-buddism-in-the-treatment-webinar/ \nEvent Title: Hypnosis and Zen Buddhism in the Treatment of Pain and Suffering \nDates: November 10\, 2024 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 3.0 \nContact: Marcy Nadel\, marcy1116@aol.com \nAbstract:\nThis webinar will use didactics demonstrations to explain how psychotherapy informed by hypnosis and mindfulness can be used to treat chronic pain. The first half of the workshop will describe eight modules of content (assessment\, motivational interviewing\, cognitive restructuring\, activity monitoring\, hypnosis\, mindfulness\, treating psychological issues and sleep) that are ideally covered when working with people who want to improve managing chronic pain. A model of non-linear hypnosis will be described that enables the clinician to use this modality in treating the dimensions of pain elucidated through a biopsychosocial conceptualization. The second half of the webinar will present a model based on Zen Buddhism for introducing meditation to patients by using a model of the non-dualistic\, scientifically based illusion of the self\, along with a simple method for teaching meditation that is based on this. \nLearning Objectives:\nAt the end of the program\, participants will be able to: \n1. Describe the biological\, psychological and social components of a model to assess chronic pain for hypnotically based management.\n2. Articulate how implicit learning and priming serve as scientifically based methods to elicit unconscious processing for hypnotic interventions.\n3. Perform hypnotic inductions for pain that combine suggestions for modifying negative thoughts about pain with pain reduction

SUMMARY:Attachment-Focused Hypnosis in Psychotherapy: Relational Strategies for the Developmental Repair of Trauma and Chronic Pain (Eric Spiegel\, Ph.D)
DESCRIPTION:Website: https://eric-spiegel-phd.ce-go.com/relational-hypnosis-for-chronic-pain-and-functional-disorders \nEvent Title: Attachment-Focused Hypnosis in Psychotherapy: Relational Strategies for the Developmental Repair of Trauma and Chronic Pain \nDates: Friday\, November 15-Sunday\, November 17 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 20.0 \nContact: Eric Spiegel\, Ph.D.\, espiegelphd@gmail.com \nAbstract:\nThis workshop presents two complementary relational hypnotherapeutic approaches that can be incorporated into existing psychotherapy for patients with a range of clinical presentations\, including trauma\, pain\, and anxiety. In its utilization of shared attention\, tone of voice\, pacing\, language\, and imagery\, clinical hypnosis as a state\, relationship\, and technique offers psychotherapists a relational and experiential means for utilizing the therapeutic relationship to heal arrested internal\, structural\, and developmental functioning in their patients. In the first portion of this workshop\, participants will learn how hypnosis can facilitate attachment repair in patients with developmental arrests. The relational and psychological functions of attunement\, representation\, and mentalization are essential components of a secure attachment experience. The presenter will review the literature and describe how hypnosis can be applied in working with each of these areas of attachment to engage relatedness\, develop internal working models\, harness implicit relational knowing\, and cultivate reflective functioning. In the second portion of this workshop\, we will examine how hypnosis can be strategically utilized to evoke the three components of the therapeutic relationship: transference\, the contemporary (‘real’) relationship\, and the therapeutic alliance. We will review hypnotic strategies from each of these three components with the goal of differentiating when and how to elicit effect\, create containment\, and utilize rapport from the relationship to guide the treatment process. Participants will learn how hypnosis can serve as an ‘in-between’ state in which elements of this relational matrix can be utilized to great effect in advancing treatment process and outcome. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDefine mentalization and explain how it develops during a healthy attachment process.\nIntegrate polyvagal and neurological phenomena into a conceptual framework for how trauma disrupts development.\nDefine hypnosis as a state\, procedure\, and relational experience.\nSummarize how hypnosis can be incorporated into trauma treatment by theoretical orientation & by phase of treatment.\nMatch each of the 3 phases (attunement\, representation\, mentalization) of the ARM hypnotherapy model with the appropriate developmental function(s) being repaired.\nArticulate how the hypnotic elements of attunement\, representation\, and mentalization can be used to facilitate developmental repair.\nExplain how the ‘symbiotic alliance’ in the attunement phase of hypnotherapy augments the ‘working alliance’ in psychotherapy.\nFormulate and deliver 2 hypnotic suggestions for enhancing attunement in the hypnotherapeutic relationship.\nDescribe the 3 types of representational hypnotherapeutic approaches.\nFormulate and deliver 2 hypnotic suggestions for developing mental representation of a secure attachment figure or ego state.\nFormulate and deliver 2 hypnotic suggestions for increasing self & object constancy across divergent experiential\, mental\, and ego states.\nOffer an indirect and direct hypnotic suggestion for the purpose of developing mentalization.\nFormulate and deliver 2 hypnotic suggestions for increasing the capacity for reflective awareness about mental states in developmentally arrested\npatients.\nUnderstand how hypnosis hastens the development of new perspectives\, realities\, and understanding in the ‘in-between’.\nFormulate 2 hypnotic strategies for evoking transference.\nFormulate 2 hypnotic strategies for evoking the contemporary (real) relationship.\nFormulate 2 hypnotic strategies to evoke the therapeutic alliance.\nConceptualize and implement a relational approach featuring hypnosis for the purpose of treating narcissistic wounds.\nUtilize 2 hypnotic interventions to regulate the effect during “triggers” of narcissistic wounds.\nDevelop a hypnotic scene that addresses narcissistic spectrum presentation (e.g. false self) and facilitates developmental repair.\nUtilize principles of attachment & relationship to create a hypnotic scene for the purpose of modulating pain.\nUtilize principles of attachment & relationship to create a hypnotic scene for the purpose of modulating anxiety

SUMMARY:Hypnotic Psychotherapy and the Art of Balancing Mindful Resources (Central Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization:  Central Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis (CTSCH) \nWebsite: http://ctsch.com/hypnotic-psychotherapy/ \nEvent Title: Hypnotic Psychotherapy and the Art of Balancing Mindful Resources \nDates: 11/15/2024 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 2.0 \nContact: CTSCH@CTSCH.com \nAbstract:\nPsychotherapy is often approached in ways that can polarize conscious and unconscious aspects of mind\, deepening a problematic dissociation from one’s internal resources. This workshop offers ways to assist clients in accessing unconscious resources and comfortably holding themselves in the experiential field between conscious thought and unconscious process. The presenter uses terms for the unconscious such as Creative Mind\, the Dream Mind\, and the Poetic Mind. Therapists should consider the space between the minds as a fertile experiential field where more access to elements of the mind is available. This presentation will include a demonstration and a brief practice session. This “mindfield” is but one of the fields a therapist must attend to in their clinical work. A therapist must be ready to work with all the fields of the client\, cultural and societal fields\, the interpersonal field\, and the multiple fields within the therapist. This presentation offers conceptual and practical approaches for helping a client move into the space between the conscious and unconscious fields using a combination of conversational inquiry\, direct suggestion\, imagery\, naturalistic induction\, and indirect suggestion. It is useful to think of the therapist in the role of musical conductor who prompts the client to use and “play with” certain resources\, as well as helping the client experiment in a more independent manner with their internal resources. \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Explain the definition of experiential field as used by the presenter.\n2. Describe two methods for inviting a client to leave the safety of the conscious field to explore their field of dreams including nightmares.\n3. Describe two direct approaches to promote solution-focused processing.\n4. Describe how to use the conscious/unconscious experiential field with two current clients.

Building on this foundation\, the Level 2 workshop delves deeper into clinical hypnosis\, expanding on “how to” by adding the “when\, why\, and where” for techniques\, especially for specific populations and complex cases like pain and anxiety management. Advanced skills such as complex inductions and the nuanced use of suggestion language are explored with expert feedback. For those seeking continued growth\, Advanced Workshops offered throughout the year cover specialized topics\, including behavioral medicine and mind-body integration\, enabling participants to further enhance and apply their skills in targeted areas. Each level builds confidence\, competence\, and the ability to provide patient-centered\, integrative care  \nImportant Notes  \n\nRegister for only ONE Workshop – Participants are expected to attend all days. \nDetailed workshop schedules\, faculty and other materials will be available to participants\, online\, two weeks before the start date.  Workshop materials will be available in electronic form only. \nYou must complete Level 1 prior to taking Level 2. \nApproximately one week before the workshop\, registered participants will receive a link to a private webpage that will include links to handouts and resource materials.  This access will be good for seven days after the workshop has been completed.  Note: workshop handouts can be approximately 200+ pages for Level 1; 150+ pages for Level 2; and 100+ pages for Advanced.  \n\nClinical Workshop Level 1  \nThe Level 1 workshop\, the first part of a series of workshops in the certification program for clinical hypnosis\, is intended for licensed health professionals including physicians\, nurses\, psychologists\, dentists\, counselors\, social workers\, and those in related fields.
