SUMMARY:ASCH Level 1 & Level 2 Workshop
DESCRIPTION:ASCH Level 1 & Level 2 Workshop \nThursday\, May 15th – Sunday\, May 18th \nQuick Links: \nLevel 1 Registration is Sold Out for this event.  \nRegister for Level 2 \nOur Clinical Hypnosis training program offers a progressive series of workshops designed to equip licensed health professionals with skills to incorporate clinical hypnosis into their practices. In the Level 1 workshop\, participants learn the foundational principles and techniques of hypnosis\, including inductions\, suggestions\, and therapeutic strategies\, guided by experienced faculty from various health disciplines. This course blends presentations\, demonstrations\, and hands-on practice to provide basic skills for immediate application. Building on this foundation\, the Level 2 workshop delves deeper into clinical hypnosis\, expanding on “how to” by adding the “when\, why\, and where” for techniques\, especially for specific populations and complex cases like pain and anxiety management. Advanced skills such as complex inductions and the nuanced use of suggestion language are explored with expert feedback. For those seeking continued growth\, Advanced Workshops offered throughout the year cover specialized topics\, including behavioral medicine and mind-body integration\, enabling participants to further enhance and apply their skills in targeted areas. Each level builds confidence\, competence\, and the ability to provide patient-centered\, integrative care \nImportant Notes \n\nRegister for only ONE Workshop – Participants are expected to attend all days.\nDetailed workshop schedules\, faculty and other materials will be available to participants\, online\, two weeks before the start date. SUMMARY:Hypnosis for Gastrointestinal Distress: Mind-Body Considerations for Healing
DESCRIPTION:Organization:  \nGreater Philadelphia Society of Clinical Hypnosis \nWebsite:  \nunavailable until closer to the date of the program \nEvent Title:  \nHypnosis for Gastrointestinal Distress: Mind-Body Considerations for Healing \nAgenda: \nApril 27\, 2025 \n9:30 AM-10:00 AM  Registration\, Sign-in\, Zoom Housekeeping\, Introductions \n10:00 AM-10:20 AM Introduction\, and initial group experience \n10:20 AM-11:05 AM Essential concepts:  Psychoneuroimmunology\, autonomic nervous system and polyvagal theory\, brain structure\, and how these concepts should inform how clinician can use hypnosis more effectively \n11:05 AM-11:15 AM    Q and A \n11:15 AM-11:45 AM Fundamentals of Irritable Bowel Syndrome\, Dysregulation Syndrome\, Somatic Dissociation \n11:45 AM-12:45 PM Applications of hypnosis for digestive distress \n12:45 PM-1:00 PM      Q and A\, Integration\, Conclusion\, Evaluation \nDates:  \nApril 27\, 2025 \nLocation: \nWebinar \nCE: \n3 Credits \nContact: \nmarcy1116@aol.com \nAbstract: \nIrritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is the most common gastrointestinal disorder. It is one of the most common disorders seen by physicians and other health professionals. Several studies have suggested that the societal impact of IBS on health-related quality of life is equally as significant as congestive heart failure. While there are medications available for treating the symptoms of IBS\, most patients and clinicians express that these treatments are temporary and often unsatisfactory. Clinical hypnosis is one of the most successful treatment approaches for chronic IBS. The response rate to treatment is 80% or better in most published studies\, and it often helps individuals who have failed to improve with other methods.  In this 3-hour virtual workshop\, you will learn the role that hypnosis can play in facilitating an ideal healing state to assist in healing from IBS and other functional digestive distress. Participants will learn to understand IBS and other functional disorders as dysregulation syndromes. We will also explore how hypnosis can be helpful as an adjunct to other treatments for inflammatory bowel conditions such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease. Dr Weisberg will guide the participants through a mixture of didactic and experiential approaches they can use on a daily basis in their clinical practice. \nLearning Objectives: \nAt the end of the program\, participants will be able to: \na. Describe one important aspect about the relationship between chronic pain\, central sensitization\, and autonomic dysregulation\nb. Formulate at least 2 hypnotic interventions to reduce IBS symptoms\nc. Formulate at least 2 hypnotic suggestions to help a patient with IBS become less fearful and avoidant of difficult abdominal sensations

SUMMARY:A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to an Induction: When Humor Enhances Hypnosis (Clinical Hypnosis Society of New Jersey)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Clinical Hypnosis Society of New Jersey \nWebsite: https://www.clinicalhypnosisnj.org/event-6019239 \nEvent Title: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to an Induction: When Humor Enhances Hypnosis \nAgenda: https://asch.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Reid_Timed_Agenda.docx  \nDates: 04/27/2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 2.0 \nContact: drstaffin@gmail.com \nAbstract:\nIt has been said that\, “Laughter is the best medicine.” There is ample empirical evidence that humor promotes immune functioning\, enhances quality of life in cancer patients and nursing home residents\, and minimizes symptoms of depression and anxiety (Bains et al.\, 2015; Ko & Youn\, 2011; Kuru & Kublay\, 2017; Morishima et al.\, 2019; Takeda et al.\, 2010). Yet there is limited consideration or research regarding the inclusion of humor during hypnosis sessions (Thomson\, 2022). This (two hour) conversation will review the healing properties of humor for medical and psychological disorders\, and more specifically\, encourage participants to consider embedding (i.e.\, interspersing) humor during hypnosis sessions with their clients. Case examples and demonstrations will highlight the pairing of humor with hypnosis for enhancing “ego strengthening\,” embedded metaphors\, story-telling\, age regression/progression\, and post-hypnotic suggestions. \nLearning Objectives:\nAt the conclusion of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n1) Identify three (3) positive effects of humor for medical and/or psychological disorders. \n2) Identify at least three (3) ways to effectively incorporate humor into hypnosisinterventions. \n3) Identify two (2) situations in which humor is appropriate and two (2) situationsin which humor is inappropriate to include in clinical hypnosis.

SUMMARY:Hypnosis and Sleep: How to Deliver Hypnotic Suggestions That Support Healthy Sleep (CTSCH)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: CTSCH \nWebsite:  https://www.ctsch.com/ \nAgenda: https://asch.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Timed_Agenda.docx \nEvent Title: Hypnosis and Sleep: How to Deliver Hypnotic Suggestions That Support Healthy Sleep \nDates: 4/25/2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 2.0 \nContact: CTSCH@CTSCH.com \nAbstract:\nHalf of all adults experience regular sleep disturbances\, with significant portions of the population suffering from chronic insomnia\, according to Rand’s 2023 Global Report. Hypnosis can be very helpful with inducing relaxation\, releasing anxiety\, and controlling the spinning thoughts that often accompany insomnia. However\, unless we\, as practitioners\, understand sleep architecture and the specific components of sleep\, we cannot design and deliver the unique suggestions that most effectively target sleep and wake cycles. To fully address sleep disturbance\, we must shift our perception of insomnia\, cognitive fog\, and fatigue as true issues with sleep per se. Instead\, these symptoms should be thought of as challenges to the transitions between states of wakefulness and sleeping. Because hypnosis is a bridge between the conscious (awake) and unconscious (sleeping) minds\, it can be an extraordinary tool for impacting those transitional challenges\, between states of being awake and being asleep\, in a safe and profound way. In this workshop\, we will discuss the foundations of sleep in the body and brain\, explore some of the architecture of sleep and hypnosis\, and learn how to address sleep/wake issues using hypnotic metaphors\, language\, and specific suggestions. \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Be able to identify at least 3 specific aspects of sleep problems or architecture that can be effectively addressed using hypnotic suggestions. \n2. Be able to construct at least 3 metaphors or embedded suggestions that address common sleep problems pertaining to sleep architecture. \n3. Be able to deliver at least 3 hypnotic suggestions that specifically relate to sleep. \n4. Be able to formulate and practice at least 2 different hypnotic inductions that target healing sleep and fatigue problems.

Michael’s teaching is highly structured and organized. The course is entirely virtual (online) and takes place over time to allow the natural process of learning to occur with experiential learning in between phases. There is no substitute for the opportunity to take the skills back to your practice and have your own personal experience with your clients as you begin to integrate the newly learned skills. Then\, you can come back to the next phase of the training with relevant questions and experiences. In every phase\, the emphasis is on practicality: What are the practical implications of concepts being taught\, and what are the techniques derived from these insights? How can they be incorporated into your sessions? There will be structured practice sessions in every phase; after all\, the primary goal of the entire training is to give you the tools needed to integrate hypnosis skillfully into your clinical practice. There will be didactic presentations on key topics\, video demonstrations\, and ample opportunity for addressing questions and discussing the finer points of presented material. \nCourse Brochure: 60-Hr_Comprehensive_Hypnosis_Training_Brochure

DESCRIPTION:Organization: Greater Philadelphia Society of Clinical Hypnosis \nWebsite: https://gpsch.org/ \nAgenda: https://asch.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Flemons_Timed_Agenda.docx \nEvent Title: From Spiraling to Unraveling: The Hypnotherapeutic Treatment of Anxiety \nDates: 3/16/2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 3.0 \nContact: marcy1116@aol.com \nAbstract:\nThe feral feel of anxiety tends to inspire antagonistic efforts to rein it in. Clients may initially seek you out because they’re hoping hypnosis will help them conquer their tachycardia\, worried thoughts\, fainting\, IBS\, excessive sweating\, or panic attacks. However\, hypnosis is best employed not to try to dominate or banish such symptoms\, but\, rather\, to invite their unraveling and dissolution through the facilitation of effortless—avolitional—shifts and alterations in how clients make sense of and respond to anxious experience. \nIn this three-hour webinar\, we’ll tease out some of the common intra- and interactive patterns of anxiety and illuminate key hypnotic strategies for therapeutically altering them. You will learn how to approach hypnosis as a vehicle not for enhanced control but\, rather\, for inviting curiosity\, creative collaboration and coordination\, and extemporaneous invention and discovery. \nLearning Objectives:\nAt the end of the program\, participants will be able to: \n\nContrast control- and coordination-based approaches to treating anxiety.\nOutline the self-referential spiraling inherent in anxiety and panic.\nIdentify 3 symptoms of anxiety as the result of mind-body efforts to meet a challenge.\nDescribe 2 ways to alter symptoms of anxiety.

SUMMARY:The Discriminating Therapist: Using Hypnosis to Enhance Decision Making (ASCH ASMW Pre-Conference)
DESCRIPTION:*CLICK HERE TO REGISTER*\n  \nCognitive psychology\, the study of how people think\, has given rise to new understandings about how people gather and use information. This includes how people decide\, usually at a level outside of awareness\, what is salient to pay attention to in a given environment and\, likewise\, what is essentially irrelevant. When people get sidetracked into irrelevancy\, paying too much attention to what doesn’t really matter and too little attention to what does\, their perceptions and responses naturally lead them astray. More important\, when someone’s perspective is so global or over-general that they simply don’t know how or what to decide\, they are far more likely to make poor decisions on the basis of hurt feelings\, old history\, misconceptions\, or blind faith. There are many different ways of making key life decisions\, and when one employs an ineffective one\, the results can be enduringly painful. Instead of following the therapy tradition of analyzing why someone makes the choices they make\, The Discriminating Therapist focuses on how people choose. Illustrative examples from client interviews will be included. We will especially focus on what they failed to either notice or discriminate in their global response to some circumstance. From this gentler perspective\, we can focus on ways to use hypnosis to help people make better decisions. \nCE Credits: 3 \n  \nSpeaker Bio \nMichael D. Yapko\, Ph.D.\, is a clinical psychologist residing near San Diego\, California. He is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in applying clinical hypnosis in outcome-focused psychotherapy\, especially in the active treatment of depression. He has been invited to present his innovative ideas and methods to colleagues in more than 30 countries across six continents\, and all over the United States. SUMMARY:Utilizing Hypnosis in the Treatment of Narcissistic Wounds in Psychotherapy: A Relational Approach (ASCH ASMW Pre-Conference)
DESCRIPTION:  \n*CLICK HERE TO REGISTER*\n  \n\n\n\nThe dimension of narcissism influences a wide-range of character presentations and treatment issues occurring in psychotherapy in our modern age. Although clinical and public attention is often focused on the categorically-derived DSM-V diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder\, narcissistic wounds stemming from attachment failures are a more frequent occurrence in the development of the self. These arrests in the full formation of the self and their subsequent re-appearance in later relationship interactions are often referenced in a wide range of treatments. \nIn this workshop\, we will consider how Kohut’s self psychology and current innovations in attachment theory can help us understand narcissistic wounds and treatment issues across the dimension of narcissism. Further\, we will focus on the role that hypnosis can play in a relationally attuned therapeutic relationship towards facilitating attachment repair in patients with developmental arrests associated with narcissistic wounds (e.g. false-self identify formation\, affect dysregulation\, boundary difficulties\, etc.). Through a mixture of didactic and experiential training\, participants will develop increased competency in (1) understanding how the therapeutic relationship in general\, and clinical hypnosis from an attachment frame in particular\, can be utilized to re-build developmental structure and re-engage reflective functioning in this population of patients and (2) utilizing specific applications of clinical hypnosis towards this aim. \nCE Credits: 2 \nSpeaker Bio \n\n\n\nEric Spiegel\, Ph.D.\, is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Philadelphia\, PA\, and owner of Attune Therapy Group. He is certified as an Approved Consultant in clinical hypnosis by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). Dr. Spiegel is a Past-President and Fellow of ASCH. He is co-author of the book Attachment in Group Psychotherapy\, published by APA. He has also published on attachment and hypnosis in AJCH & IJCEH journals. SUMMARY:The Neuroscience and Practice of Hypnosis and Meditation: Integration and Application (Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis \nWebsite: https://www.fsch.org/intermediate-workshop \nEvent Title: The Neuroscience and Practice of Hypnosis and Meditation: Integration and Application \nAgenda: https://asch.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/FSCH_Agenda_Neuroscience__Hypnosis____Meditation.docx \nDates: March 2\, 2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 6.0 \nContact: drdamis@louisdamisphd.com \nAbstract:\nClinical hypnosis and mindfulness meditation have become established treatments for a wide range of medical and psychological disorders. In this timely advanced workshop\, the participants will acquire the latest neuroscientific information underlying hypnosis and meditation. The neurophysiological mechanisms of pain processing and the mechanisms by which hypnosis and meditation modulate pain will also be delineated. This workshop will also integrate clinical hypnosis with mindfulness. First\, it will review the background of contemporary mindfulness in the context of Buddhist meditation. The three popular forms of Buddhist meditation\, vipassanā (open monitor)\, samatha (focused attention)\, and mettā (loving-kindness) provide rich material for clinical hypnosis practice. Second\, it will introduce the Touch-and-Return mindfulness method\, which may be utilized for trance induction. The participant is welcome to experience it during the workshop. Finally\, the workshop introduces the eight stages of mental absorption\, i.e.\, rūpa and arūpa jhanas\, as described in the Buddhist texts. This topic is highly relevant to hypnotic trance but has received little attention from hypnosis researchers and practitioners to date. No prior experience or knowledge in mindfulness or meditation is required to attend this workshop. \nLearning Objectives:\nParticipants attending this workshop will be able to: \n\nDescribe three functional neurophysiologic changes associated with hypnotic and meditative states.\nExplain the difference in neuroplasticity between hypnosis and meditation.\nList the four brain networks associated with chronic pain and its modulation.\nDescribe two mechanisms by which hypnosis and meditation differentially modulate pain.\nSpecify the three fundamental forms of Buddhist meditation related to contemporary mindfulness.\nAcquire the 4-step Touch-and-Return mindfulness protocol.\nBecome familiar with the 8 stage concepts of mental absorption described in the Buddhist meditation texts.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Hypnosis and Creative Mind (Central Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Central Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis (CTSCH) \nWebsite: http://ctsch.com/ \nEvent Title: Hypnosis and Creative Mind \nDates: 02/21/2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 2.0 \nContact: CTSCH@CTSCH.com \nAbstract:\nOver a century of Western models of hypnosis have shared a dual-mind hypothesis of conscious/unconscious minds. Dr. Gilligan will present his generative trance approach\, regarding the positive and negative relationships that may obtain between the primary brain/mind experience of nonverbal/nature consciousness\, and the secondary brain/mind mapping of the verbal/virtual mind. Creative Mind activates with the harmonious interconnection between the two minds\, and problems develop and maintain themselves through a hostile dissociation between these “creative unconscious” and “conscious” minds. We will then see how this guides a psychotherapist in joining\, positively valuing\, and connecting the two modes to shift clinical problems into human resources. Theoretical models\, clinical examples\, and a guided process will illustrate the model. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nTo describe recent neuropsychological findings showing the complementary nature of the two brain/minds of the right and left hemispheres.\nTo identify how dissociation between these two intelligences is a common underpinning of sustained suffering.\nTo identify at least three ways generative hypnosis can be used to restore interconnectedness and thereby increase mental health\, at both individual and collective levels.
