SUMMARY:Hypnotic Psychotherapy and the Art of Balancing Mindful Resources (Central Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization:  Central Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis (CTSCH) \nWebsite: http://ctsch.com/hypnotic-psychotherapy/ \nEvent Title: Hypnotic Psychotherapy and the Art of Balancing Mindful Resources \nDates: 11/15/2024 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 2.0 \nContact: CTSCH@CTSCH.com \nAbstract:\nPsychotherapy is often approached in ways that can polarize conscious and unconscious aspects of mind\, deepening a problematic dissociation from one’s internal resources. This workshop offers ways to assist clients in accessing unconscious resources and comfortably holding themselves in the experiential field between conscious thought and unconscious process. The presenter uses terms for the unconscious such as Creative Mind\, the Dream Mind\, and the Poetic Mind. Therapists should consider the space between the minds as a fertile experiential field where more access to elements of the mind is available. This presentation will include a demonstration and a brief practice session. This “mindfield” is but one of the fields a therapist must attend to in their clinical work. A therapist must be ready to work with all the fields of the client\, cultural and societal fields\, the interpersonal field\, and the multiple fields within the therapist. This presentation offers conceptual and practical approaches for helping a client move into the space between the conscious and unconscious fields using a combination of conversational inquiry\, direct suggestion\, imagery\, naturalistic induction\, and indirect suggestion. It is useful to think of the therapist in the role of musical conductor who prompts the client to use and “play with” certain resources\, as well as helping the client experiment in a more independent manner with their internal resources. \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Explain the definition of experiential field as used by the presenter.\n2. Describe two methods for inviting a client to leave the safety of the conscious field to explore their field of dreams including nightmares.\n3. Describe two direct approaches to promote solution-focused processing.\n4. Describe how to use the conscious/unconscious experiential field with two current clients.

SUMMARY:LIVE WEBINAR on Using Hypnosis to Enhance Performance and Creativity (New England Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: New England Society of Clinical Hypnosis \nWebsite: https://www.nesch.org/event-5765718 \nEvent Title: LIVE WEBINAR on Using Hypnosis to Enhance Performance and Creativity \nDates: 1/12/2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 3.0 \nContact: neschmsc@gmail.com \nAbstract:\nHardly a day goes by without a renowned public figure coming forward in the news and social media to reveal the impact of mental health on their performance and creativity. Stories and research abound on how mental health concerns have contributed to performance setbacks in the lives of elite athletes (U.S. Olympic Committee\, 2019)\, performing artists ((Rusak\, et al.\, 2021)\, students (Agnafors\, et al.\, 2020) and employees in the workplace (Center for Disease Control\, 2018). As society moves towards destigmatizing mental health challenges\, the opportunity for clinicians who can use hypnosis (vs. psychopharmacological approaches) to help enhance performance\, creativity and mental health is growing. Led by Dr. Dana Lebo\, a seasoned psychologist specializing in performance psychology and executive coaching\, this workshop draws on over two decades of her experience in guiding individuals towards their peak potential. It will provide for participants the opportunity to experience hypnotically informed strategies to enhance performance and creativity in their clients\, whether in sports\, on stage\, in the arts or at work. Participants will experience the integration of organizational\, coaching\, sports and mind-body psychologies with hypnosis to help improve performance and creativity. They will learn performance enhancement processes that they can readily apply in their lives and work. \nLearning Objectives: \n1. Describe at least 3 examples of how hypnotic techniques have been used to enhance performance or creativity. Examples will be drawn from sports\, the arts or workplace settings.\n2. Describe at least two key components to a process-oriented approach to enhancing performance or creativity.\n3. Describe at least three experiential exercises — incorporating hypnosis — that they can apply with individuals or groups in the process of enhancing performance or creativity.

SUMMARY:Techniques That Work: Favorites from My 40 Years of Practice (Medical Hypnosis Consultants\, PLLC)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Medical Hypnosis Consultants\, PLLC \nWebsite: MedicalHypnosisConsultants.org \nEvent Title: Techniques That Work: Favorites from My 40 Years of Practice \nDates: 1/17/25-1/28/2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 10 \nContact: hollyforestermiller@gmail.com \nAbstract:\nThis ten hour workshop is designed to teach participants some of my favorite hypnotic techniques that I have either created or adapted over the past forty years. They are my favorites because they typically work very well at helping clients to shift ideas and make rapid changes in thoughts\, behaviors and/or comfort. This is a hands–on workshop and will be interactive\, including live demonstrations and practice groups. Participants will learn how to use a “Split Screen” technique for performance enhancement and eliminating old behavior habits. “The Old Fashioned Switchboard” is a wonderful tool I developed for helping individuals to let go of less than helpful self-talk. Participants will learn to use my “Past and Future” technique to help clients look at how things occurred in the past as a start to shifting the way they occur in the future. My “Spine Realignment” protocol is a wonderful tool for helping to relieve neck and spine tension\, alleviating compression and releasing pressure on nerves and ruptured discs to allow clients to move more comfortably and learn how to better relax their body. With “Symbolic Representation” participants will learn a method for assisting clients in shifting and/or clearing problematic issues without having to discuss the origins of the problem. With a demonstration of my “Cleaning out the Attic” participants will experience a metaphor for letting go of useless internalized ideas and negative concepts of self. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUtilize the “Split Screen” hypnotic technique for performance enhancement.\nUse the “Old Fashioned Switchboard” to help clients let go of less than helpful self-talk.\nApply the “Past & Future” technique to assist clients in making change.\nDemonstrate how to use “Symbolic Representation” with clients.\nDuplicate the “Spine Realignment” protocol.\nModify the ” Cleaning Out the Attic” metaphor depending on a client

Gestures are one element of that package. They have multiple and varied purposes: they punctuate and augment our messages; represent ideas and concepts; serve as reference points; and can be used to engage\, distract and or assess responsiveness. Their subtlety makes them ideal for clinical work as they are not consciously attended to yet influence perception\, understanding\, and meaning; they are core elements of limbic communication. We routinely employ them in the course of normal conversation\, harnessing them mindfully with strategic intent is an easy transition. \nLearning Objectives:\nAt the conclusion of this presentation attendees will be able to: \n1. Describe the relative proportions of unconscious and conscious processes.\n2. List three types of gestures.\n3. Provide a working definition of “embodiment.”\n4. Identify two benefits of incorporating gestures into thier clinical work.\n5. Report on the percentage of the brain that is dedicated to processing visual\ninformation.\n6. List there dimensions in the “package of communication.”

SUMMARY:Suggestive Therapeutics and Choice Architecture (Greater Philadelphia Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Greater Philadelphia Society of Clinical Hypnosis \nWebsite: https://gpsch.org/ \nEvent Title: Suggestive Therapeutics and Choice Architecture \nDates:  January 26\, 2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 3.0 \nContact: marcy1116@aol.com \nAbstract:\nEricksonian Choice Architecture (ECA) is classified as a third branch of suggestive therapeutics\, with hypnosis and placebo therapy being the other two. While ECA originated from the clinical work of Milton H. Erickson\, MD\, (what he termed “conversational hypnosis”) it is conceptually rooted in research produced by the field of behavioral economics. Thus\, this workshop will blend elements of unconscious processing\, cognition\, emotion\, and socio-cultural factors to enable practitioners to shape how their clients recognize and experience choice. Unlike other therapy models\, ECA is choice-centric\, meaning that the subjective realization of choice is the central aim of the collaborative relationship—with change following as a natural biproduct. A primary thesis of the workshop is that the exercise of choice makes opportunity possible. \nCoined by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein\, the term choice architecture refers to influencing decisions by organizing the context in which choices are made. Unlike behavior modification\, choice architects empower effective decision-making using indirect influence\, without imposing rewards or punishments. By providing “nudges” they support individuals in making decisions that align with their best interests. Consistent with Erickson’s permissive approach\, the client retains autonomy over their choices\, while the choice architect strives to create an optimal choice environment. The approach is data-biased\, which means the decision architect uses research in positive psychology to help clients find opportunities for personal growth and social connection. This ethical framework requires sophisticated training to ensure decisions are framed in ways that promote the individual’s well-being and right to self-determination. \nLearning Objectives:\nAt the end of the program\, participants will be able to: \n\nDefine Ericksonian Choice Architecture (ECA) and classify it as a branch of suggestive therapeutics distinct from hypnosis and placebo therapy\n Analyze five key elements of ECA – unconscious processing\, cognition\, motivation\, emotion\, and socio-cultural factors – by accurately identifying examples or applications of each component in case scenarios\nDifferentiate ECA from behavior modification approaches by explaining at least three fundamental differences\, including the use of “nudges\,” the prioritization of choice over change\, and the focus on client autonomy\nDemonstrate the ethical framework of ECA by describing a choice architecture scenario that promotes personal growth and self-determination\n\n

SUMMARY:Webinar: Hypnosis and Creative Mind (Central Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Central Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis (CTSCH) \nWebsite: http://ctsch.com/ \nEvent Title: Hypnosis and Creative Mind \nDates: 02/21/2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 2.0 \nContact: CTSCH@CTSCH.com \nAbstract:\nOver a century of Western models of hypnosis have shared a dual-mind hypothesis of conscious/unconscious minds. Dr. Gilligan will present his generative trance approach\, regarding the positive and negative relationships that may obtain between the primary brain/mind experience of nonverbal/nature consciousness\, and the secondary brain/mind mapping of the verbal/virtual mind. Creative Mind activates with the harmonious interconnection between the two minds\, and problems develop and maintain themselves through a hostile dissociation between these “creative unconscious” and “conscious” minds. We will then see how this guides a psychotherapist in joining\, positively valuing\, and connecting the two modes to shift clinical problems into human resources. Theoretical models\, clinical examples\, and a guided process will illustrate the model. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nTo describe recent neuropsychological findings showing the complementary nature of the two brain/minds of the right and left hemispheres.\nTo identify how dissociation between these two intelligences is a common underpinning of sustained suffering.\nTo identify at least three ways generative hypnosis can be used to restore interconnectedness and thereby increase mental health\, at both individual and collective levels.

SUMMARY:The Neuroscience and Practice of Hypnosis and Meditation: Integration and Application (Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis \nWebsite: https://www.fsch.org/intermediate-workshop \nEvent Title: The Neuroscience and Practice of Hypnosis and Meditation: Integration and Application \nAgenda: https://asch.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/FSCH_Agenda_Neuroscience__Hypnosis____Meditation.docx \nDates: March 2\, 2025 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 6.0 \nContact: drdamis@louisdamisphd.com \nAbstract:\nClinical hypnosis and mindfulness meditation have become established treatments for a wide range of medical and psychological disorders. In this timely advanced workshop\, the participants will acquire the latest neuroscientific information underlying hypnosis and meditation. The neurophysiological mechanisms of pain processing and the mechanisms by which hypnosis and meditation modulate pain will also be delineated. This workshop will also integrate clinical hypnosis with mindfulness. First\, it will review the background of contemporary mindfulness in the context of Buddhist meditation. The three popular forms of Buddhist meditation\, vipassanā (open monitor)\, samatha (focused attention)\, and mettā (loving-kindness) provide rich material for clinical hypnosis practice. Second\, it will introduce the Touch-and-Return mindfulness method\, which may be utilized for trance induction. The participant is welcome to experience it during the workshop. Finally\, the workshop introduces the eight stages of mental absorption\, i.e.\, rūpa and arūpa jhanas\, as described in the Buddhist texts. This topic is highly relevant to hypnotic trance but has received little attention from hypnosis researchers and practitioners to date. No prior experience or knowledge in mindfulness or meditation is required to attend this workshop. \nLearning Objectives:\nParticipants attending this workshop will be able to: \n\nDescribe three functional neurophysiologic changes associated with hypnotic and meditative states.\nExplain the difference in neuroplasticity between hypnosis and meditation.\nList the four brain networks associated with chronic pain and its modulation.\nDescribe two mechanisms by which hypnosis and meditation differentially modulate pain.\nSpecify the three fundamental forms of Buddhist meditation related to contemporary mindfulness.\nAcquire the 4-step Touch-and-Return mindfulness protocol.\nBecome familiar with the 8 stage concepts of mental absorption described in the Buddhist meditation texts.

SUMMARY:Utilizing Hypnosis in the Treatment of Narcissistic Wounds in Psychotherapy: A Relational Approach (ASCH ASMW Pre-Conference)
DESCRIPTION:  \n*CLICK HERE TO REGISTER*\n  \n\n\n\nThe dimension of narcissism influences a wide-range of character presentations and treatment issues occurring in psychotherapy in our modern age. Although clinical and public attention is often focused on the categorically-derived DSM-V diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder\, narcissistic wounds stemming from attachment failures are a more frequent occurrence in the development of the self. These arrests in the full formation of the self and their subsequent re-appearance in later relationship interactions are often referenced in a wide range of treatments. \nIn this workshop\, we will consider how Kohut’s self psychology and current innovations in attachment theory can help us understand narcissistic wounds and treatment issues across the dimension of narcissism. Further\, we will focus on the role that hypnosis can play in a relationally attuned therapeutic relationship towards facilitating attachment repair in patients with developmental arrests associated with narcissistic wounds (e.g. false-self identify formation\, affect dysregulation\, boundary difficulties\, etc.). Through a mixture of didactic and experiential training\, participants will develop increased competency in (1) understanding how the therapeutic relationship in general\, and clinical hypnosis from an attachment frame in particular\, can be utilized to re-build developmental structure and re-engage reflective functioning in this population of patients and (2) utilizing specific applications of clinical hypnosis towards this aim. \nCE Credits: 2 \nSpeaker Bio \n\n\n\nEric Spiegel\, Ph.D.\, is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Philadelphia\, PA\, and owner of Attune Therapy Group. SUMMARY:The Discriminating Therapist: Using Hypnosis to Enhance Decision Making (ASCH ASMW Pre-Conference)
DESCRIPTION:*CLICK HERE TO REGISTER*\n  \nCognitive psychology\, the study of how people think\, has given rise to new understandings about how people gather and use information. This includes how people decide\, usually at a level outside of awareness\, what is salient to pay attention to in a given environment and\, likewise\, what is essentially irrelevant. When people get sidetracked into irrelevancy\, paying too much attention to what doesn’t really matter and too little attention to what does\, their perceptions and responses naturally lead them astray. More important\, when someone’s perspective is so global or over-general that they simply don’t know how or what to decide\, they are far more likely to make poor decisions on the basis of hurt feelings\, old history\, misconceptions\, or blind faith. There are many different ways of making key life decisions\, and when one employs an ineffective one\, the results can be enduringly painful. Instead of following the therapy tradition of analyzing why someone makes the choices they make\, The Discriminating Therapist focuses on how people choose. Illustrative examples from client interviews will be included. We will especially focus on what they failed to either notice or discriminate in their global response to some circumstance. From this gentler perspective\, we can focus on ways to use hypnosis to help people make better decisions. \nCE Credits: 3 \n  \nSpeaker Bio \nMichael D. Yapko\, Ph.D.\, is a clinical psychologist residing near San Diego\, California. He is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in applying clinical hypnosis in outcome-focused psychotherapy\, especially in the active treatment of depression. He has been invited to present his innovative ideas and methods to colleagues in more than 30 countries across six continents\, and all over the United States. His highly practical YouTube lecture on “How to Recover from Depression” has now been viewed more than 5.3 million times. \nDr. Yapko is the author of 16 books\, three edited books\, and nearly 100 journal articles and book chapters. His widely acclaimed clinical hypnosis textbook\, Trancework\, has just come out in an unprecedented sixth edition (Routledge\, 2025). His recent award-winning book for professionals is called Process-Oriented Hypnosis. His works have been translated into 10 languages. He is also the developer of the popular digital hypnotherapy mental health app called Claria in association with the Australian digital therapeutic company\, Mindset Health (www.mindsethealth.com).\nDr. Yapko is a Fellow of ASCH and is the recipient of numerous major awards for his innovative contributions in advancing the fields of hypnosis and brief therapy. Clients may initially seek you out because they’re hoping hypnosis will help them conquer their tachycardia\, worried thoughts\, fainting\, IBS\, excessive sweating\, or panic attacks. However\, hypnosis is best employed not to try to dominate or banish such symptoms\, but\, rather\, to invite their unraveling and dissolution through the facilitation of effortless—avolitional—shifts and alterations in how clients make sense of and respond to anxious experience. \nIn this three-hour webinar\, we’ll tease out some of the common intra- and interactive patterns of anxiety and illuminate key hypnotic strategies for therapeutically altering them. You will learn how to approach hypnosis as a vehicle not for enhanced control but\, rather\, for inviting curiosity\, creative collaboration and coordination\, and extemporaneous invention and discovery. \nLearning Objectives:\nAt the end of the program\, participants will be able to: \n\nContrast control- and coordination-based approaches to treating anxiety.\nOutline the self-referential spiraling inherent in anxiety and panic.\nIdentify 3 symptoms of anxiety as the result of mind-body efforts to meet a challenge.\nDescribe 2 ways to alter symptoms of anxiety.

Michael’s teaching is highly structured and organized. The course is entirely virtual (online) and takes place over time to allow the natural process of learning to occur with experiential learning in between phases. There is no substitute for the opportunity to take the skills back to your practice and have your own personal experience with your clients as you begin to integrate the newly learned skills. Then\, you can come back to the next phase of the training with relevant questions and experiences. In every phase\, the emphasis is on practicality: What are the practical implications of concepts being taught\, and what are the techniques derived from these insights? How can they be incorporated into your sessions? There will be structured practice sessions in every phase; after all\, the primary goal of the entire training is to give you the tools needed to integrate hypnosis skillfully into your clinical practice. There will be didactic presentations on key topics\, video demonstrations\, and ample opportunity for addressing questions and discussing the finer points of presented material. \nCourse Brochure: 60-Hr_Comprehensive_Hypnosis_Training_Brochure
