SUMMARY:Hypnosis for the Treatment of Developmental Trauma Disorders (BCSCH)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Clinical Hypnosis Society\, BC Division  \nWebsite: https://www.hypnosis.bc.ca/  \nEvent Title: Hypnosis for the Treatment of Developmental Trauma Disorders  \nAgenda:  BCSCH_Agenda_Trauma_Nov_2026_revised \nDates: 11/21/2026 -11/22/2026  \nLocation: Virtual  \nCE: 16  \nContact :  Louis Damis\, DrDamis@LouisDamisPhD.com  \nDescription: Many clients treated for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder have Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). CPTSD is associated with histories of prolonged trauma\, abuse\, and neglect/deprivation and is considered a form of developmental trauma. Such Complex Traumatic Stress Disorders include disturbances of self-organization that overlap with attachment deficits and pathologies requiring specialized interventions to modify.  \nProlonged neglect and abuse are associated with attachment anomalies\, strong egosyntonic negative beliefs\, and dissociation that are not readily changed with CBT or cognitive hypnotic interventions. These underlying aspects of developmental trauma involve the implicit memory system and early learning that psychoanalysts call the unrepressed unconscious.   \nThis workshop will delineate the role of implicit memory in trauma-related disorders and address strategies for modifying implicit memories not accessible through cognitive methods (Normative Implicit Clinical Hypnosis). Hypnotic and biobehavioral techniques for polyvagal-based interventions\, attachment repair\, and memory reconsolidation update will be integrated into a phase-oriented treatment model.  Participants will learn how to establish the neurophysiological substrate for neuroception of safety and equip patients with the prerequisite skills necessary for mastery of traumatic and wounding experiences.  Application of exploratory techniques combined with memory reconsolidation update strategies to modify negative egosyntonic beliefs and transform traumatic memories will be delineated. Once adequate stabilization is attained and sufficient memory integration is established\, treatment can focus on self-development and solidifying the sense of self.  \nA comprehensive hypnotic approach\, including relevant non-hypnotic components\, will be outlined and taught through didactic presentation and demonstration.  \nParticipants will be able to delineate and apply the following: \n\n The three components of the phase-oriented trauma treatment approach and specific hypnotic strategies for each.\n\n\n Normative Implicit Clinical Hypnosis.\n\n\n The Polyvagal Theory\, its relevance to establishing a neurophysiological substrate for trauma processing and attachment repair\, and three strategies for generating neuroception of safety\n\n\n Explain the importance of prioritizing neglect repair.\n\n\n Three hypnotic implicit memory modification strategies.\n\n\n Three strategies for accessing remote experiences associated with ego-syntonic negative beliefs and symptoms.\n\n\n Three strategies for memory reconsolidation updating specific traumatic memories.\n\nSpeaker info: Louis F. SUMMARY:ASCH Advanced Workshop: Quality of Life in High-Impact Chronic Pain: The Role of Hypnosis
DESCRIPTION:Dates: December 5th and 6th\, 2026 \nTime: 10:00AM–5:00 PM (Eastern Time) Each Day \nFormat: Live Zoom  \nCE Credit: 12 CE hours \nRegister Here – https://members.asch.net/events/event-details/?id=e098b21f-d664-f111-9b48-7c1e52a0ebef \nIf you work with folks with chronic pain\, you know that for some it moves beyond being an annoyance and starts to take over their lives. Over time\, these individuals may do less and less\, see fewer and fewer people\, enjoy fewer and fewer things\, worry and rage more and more\, and their life shrinks down to just their pain and its effects.  This pattern is common enough that the CDC has recently provided the label High-Impact Chronic Pain (HICP) to describe such conditions.  Clinicians from both the physical medicine and mental health sectors often feel helpless and overwhelmed when confronted with patients engaged in such patterns of behavior.  Fortunately\, Drs. Hall and Vair have years of experience with such populations and have learned ways that strategic education and intervention\, centered around an approach that integrates clinical hypnosis techniques\, can turn the tide for these individuals so that their lives start to grow again as the overwhelm of pain shrinks.   \nJoin ASCH for a 2-day\, 12-hour online workshop on using clinical hypnosis to improve quality of life in those most impacted by chronic pain. Day 1 centers on how pain changes us internally\, while Day 2 focuses on how it impacts us externally\, offering both hypnotic and other tools for promoting positive change.   \nAt the end of this presentation\, participating physicians and other clinicians will be able to: \n\nIdentify three differences between acute and chronic pain.\nDefine the relationship between pain and suffering.\nDescribe 3 crucial points of information that clients need to learn to shift the conversation about chronic pain in a more helpful direction.\nIdentify 8 brain regions that offer possibilities to use clinical hypnosis to change the experience of pain.\nDemonstrate the use of a structured interview to determine the relative importance of each brain region to the client’s experience of their pain and as a guide for hypnotic treatment.\nDefine the foundational aspects of a Whole Health approach to care\, including how to utilize this framework to engage individuals in active self-management of chronic pain.\nIdentify relationships between established\, evidence-informed approaches for the use of hypnosis and the Whole Health approach to care.\nIdentify ways to enhance clinical practice through utilizing person-centered hypnotic approaches.\nDefine eight aspects of personal well-being that can be addressed in chronic pain using hypnosis.\nState 2 brief “elevator speeches” to describe this approach to treating chronic pain\, one for professional colleagues\, and the second for patients and loved ones.\n\nPlease note: To participate in ASCH’s advanced workshops\, you must have completed a Level 1 Clinical Workshop \nPresenters: \n \nJohn Hall\, PhD\, ABPP\, is a clinical health psychologist with the Charlotte Clinic of the Salisbury VA Health Care System’s Whole Health Chronic Pain Team.  He is a fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology and the American Psychological Association\, an approved consultant and Past President of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis\, board lead for continuing education of the North Carolina Society of Clinical Hypnosis\, tech-wrangler for the Hypnotic Idea Exchange\, and an SME for both the Clinical Hypnosis and Guided Imagery rollouts of OPCC&CT.  Outside of work\, he is (without dysphoria) an Appalachian grandmother in gay bear body turning seeds into food\, turning fiber into clothes\, singing in church\, and spending time with his husband and rescue dogs (Charlie & Riley).  \n  \nChristina L. Vair\, PhD\, is the Whole Health Clinical Director for the Salisbury VA Health Care System and clinical champion co-lead with the VA’s national Integrative Health Coordinating Center. She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Geropsychology from the University of Colorado\, Colorado Springs. Her VA career began in 2011 at the VA Western New York in Buffalo\, where she completed internship and a two-year postdoctoral residency before serving two and a half years as a clinical researcher. Dr. Vair’s professional interests include behavioral medicine\, complementary and integrative health approaches\, employee wellness\, implementation science\, and health equity. Outside of work\, she loves spending time with her two rescue pups (Gus and Gremlin)\, hiking\, gardening\, and rock climbing. \nRegistration Fees: Member $325; Nonmember: $430; Grad $260; Intern/resident $260 \nRegistration Closing Date: November 25\, 2026 \nCancellations: Cancellations must be made in writing to info@asch.net. SUMMARY:Unraveling Problems Hypnotically: Utilization\, Avolitional Agency\, and Therapeutic Change (CHSNJ)
DESCRIPTION:Organization:  Clinical Hypnosis Society of New Jersey  \nWebsite: https://www.clinicalhypnosisnj.org/event-6818962  \nEvent Title: Unraveling Problems Hypnotically: Utilization\, Avolitional Agency\, and Therapeutic Change  \nAgenda:  27_Flemons_Timed_Agenda \nDates: 01/23/2027 – 9am -4:30pm ET \nLocation: Virtual  \nCE: 6  \nContact :  Ginny Dinsmore\, ginnydinsmore@gmail.com  \n Description: Clients typically contact a clinical hypnotist when they’re caught in the grip of a vexing mind-body problem. No longer able to manage it on their own\, they come to us with the hope and expectation that we will help them wrest control from it\, or perhaps\, once and for all\, even conquer it. This appeal for a competitive advantage against what clients perceive as a malicious Other creates an interesting challenge for us. Hypnosis and hypnotherapeutic change embody the logic of mind-body cooperation\, not competition\, the logic of mind-body connection\, not contention. Our capacity to make a difference rests on our ability to invite clients into a synergistic relationship with us and with their own experience. Hypnosis is a context not for defending against and vanquishing a perceived enemy\, but for collaborative learning and change.  \nThis workshop will lay out the foundational principles of an acceptance-based\, non-adversarial approach to clinical hypnosis and therapeutic change. We’ll explore and experiment with utilizing internal and external impediments to hypnosis\, rather than trying to block or overcome them. And we’ll make sense of the seemingly paradoxical notion of avolitional agency as a defining quality of hypnotic experience and the non-purposive unraveling of mind-body problems.  \nConsider this an invitation to a day of rethinking assumptions and discovering possibilities\, with opportunities for you to engage\, ask questions\, and experiment.  \nLearning Objectives:   \nAt the end of the workshop\, participants will be able to—  \n\n distinguish between disjunctive and conjunctive approaches to problem resolution.\n\n\n state two similarities between hypnotic and meditative experience.\n\n\n define hypnosis as a flow experience.\n\n\n describe the role of prediction and expectancy in symptoms\, placebos\, nocebos\, and hypnotic experience. \n\n\n articulate a utilization approach to hypnosis.\n\n\n specify the guiding principle of improvisation in utilization.\n\n\n identify the role of avolitional agency in hypnotic and hypnotherapeutic experience.\n\nSpeaker info:  Douglas Flemons\, Ph.D.\, LMFT 27_Flemons_Bio \n  \n
