SUMMARY:Evocative Approaches to Therapeutic Communication\, an Ericksonian Approach
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Oregon Society of Clinical Hypnosis \nWebsite: https://oregonhypnosis.org/event-5546753 \nEvent Title: Evocative Approaches to Therapeutic Communication\, an Ericksonian Approach \nDates: 05/10/2024-05/11/2024 \nLocation: In-person workshop~Virtual workshop \nCE: 12 \nContact: Cynthia Levesque\, Vicepresident@oregonhypnosis.org \nAbstract:\nTherapeutic communication can be informative and/or evocative depending on client need. When the goal is eliciting a change in state it is best to use evocative methods. Hypnosis is the mother of an experiential approach and evocative method can be derived therefrom. The program consists of lecture\, demonstration therapy\, small group practice and video examples of Milton H. Erickson. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nParticipants will define an evocative approach and discriminate it from an informative approach.\nParticipants will list three evocative methods that can facilitate the realization of concepts.\nParticipants will describe the meta-model of evocative communication and given a case apply it clinically.\nParticipants will indicate how using tailoring\, including social determinants\, can be used to define therapy goals.\nGiven a client\, participants will indicate how to use evocative methods to accomplish therapy goals.\n\nMore Info

SUMMARY:Hypnosis for the Treatment of Developmental Trauma Disorders
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Alberta Clinical Hypnosis Society \nWebsite: https://www.clinicalhypnosis.ca/event-5402985 \nEvent Title: Hypnosis for the Treatment of Developmental Trauma Disorders \nDates: 05/17/2024-05/19/2024 \nLocation: In-person workshop \nCE: 19 \nContact: Louis Damis\, DrDamis@LouisDamisPhD.com \nAbstract:\nProlonged neglect and abuse are associated with attachment anomalies\, strong egosyntonic negative beliefs\, and dissociation that are not readily changed with CBT or cognitive hypnotic interventions. These underlying aspects of developmental trauma involve the implicit memory system and early learning that psychoanalysts call the unrepressed unconscious. \nThis workshop will delineate the role of implicit memory in trauma-related disorders and address strategies for modifying implicit memories not accessible through cognitive methods (Normative Implicit Clinical Hypnosis). Hypnotic and biobehavioral techniques for polyvagal-based interventions\, attachment repair\, and memory reconsolidation update will be integrated into a phase-oriented treatment model. Participants will learn how to establish the neurophysiological substrate for neuroception of safety and equip patients with the prerequisite skills necessary for mastery of traumatic and wounding experiences. \nApplication of exploratory techniques combined with memory reconsolidation update strategies to modify negative egosyntonic beliefs and transform traumatic memories will be delineated. Once adequate stabilization is attained and sufficient memory integration established\, treatment can focus on self-development and solidifying the sense of self. \nThe workshop will provide sufficient information for participants new to the advanced hypnosis workshops and more senior practitioners looking for specialized training in trauma\, complex trauma\, and attachment disorder applications. A comprehensive hypnotic approach\, including relevant non-hypnotic components\, will be outlined and taught through didactic presentation\, demonstration\, and dyadic and small group practice. \nLearning Objectives:\nParticipants will be able to delineate and apply the following: \n\nThe three components of the phase-oriented trauma treatment approach and specific hypnotic strategies for each.\nNormative Implicit Clinical Hypnosis.\nThe Polyvagal Theory\, its relevance to establishing a neurophysiological substrate for trauma processing and attachment repair\, and three strategies for generating neuroception of safety.\nExplain the importance of prioritizing neglect repair.\nThree hypnotic implicit memory modification strategies.\nThree strategies for accessing remote experiences associated with ego-syntonic negative beliefs and symptoms.\nThree strategies for memory reconsolidation updating specific traumatic memories.\n\nMore Info

SUMMARY:Level 1 Hypnosis Training
DESCRIPTION:This course offers a unique opportunity of learning and practicing clinical hypnosis in hybrid fashion. The majority of the course will take place in person\, enabling participants to practice techniques in small groups. The in-person format affords learners the ability to learn subtle skills of observation and attunement that are important for trance facilitation. Limited class size offers an intimate learning experience with maximum hands-on facilitation by the course instructor. Spreading the sessions over the two weeks allows participants to practice their skills and integrate the material into their practice. \nThe training will consist of didactic presentations\, demonstrations\, and experiential exercises in small groups where participants will have the opportunity to practice the skills they are learning and gain feedback. \nLeslie Laskin is a highly experienced clinical social worker and a respected figure in the field of hypnosis. With 15 years of experience of using hypnosis in her practice\, Leslie has developed a deep understanding of its transformative power. As a certified and approved consultant for the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH)\, Leslie brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her teaching. \nCE: 22 \nDates: \nJune 9: Sunday\, 6:30-10:00 PM EST //  Zoom Classes \nJune 16 & 17: Sunday and Monday\, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM EST // Live Classes in Airmont\, New York \nJune 23: Sunday\, 6:30-10:00 PM EST // Zoom Classes \nMore Info

SUMMARY:A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to an Induction: When Humor Enhances Hypnosis
DESCRIPTION:Organization: The Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis (FSCH) \nWebsite: https://www.fsch.org/index.php/workshops/continuing-education \nEvent Title: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to an Induction: When Humor Enhances Hypnosis \nDates: June 9\, 2024 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 2.0 \nContact: mariefsch@aol.com \nAbstract: \nIt has been said that “laughter is the best medicine.” There is ample empirical evidence that humor promotes immune functioning\, enhances quality of life in cancer patients and nursing home residents\, and minimizes symptoms of depression and anxiety (Bains et al.\, 2015; Ko & Youn\, 2011; Kuru & Kublay\, 2017; Morishima et al.\, 2019; Takeda et al.\, 2010). Yet there is limited consideration or research regarding the inclusion of humor during hypnosis sessions (Thomson\, 2022). This two hour workshop will review the healing properties of humor for medical and psychological disorders and\, more specifically\, encourage participants to consider embedding (i.e.\, interspersing) humor during hypnosis sessions with their clients. Case examples and demonstrations will highlight the pairing of humor with hypnosis for enhancing “ego strengthening\,” embedded metaphors\, storytelling\, age regression/progression\, and post-hypnotic suggestions. \nLearning Objectives: \nAt the conclusion of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n1) Identify three (3) positive effects of humor for medical and/or psychological disorders. \n2) Identify at least three (3) ways to effectively incorporate humor into hypnosis interventions. \n3) Identify two (2) situations in which humor is appropriate and two (2) situations in which it is inappropriate.

DESCRIPTION:Organization: Medical Hypnosis Consultants.org \nWebsite: www.medicalhypnosisconsultants.org \nEvent Title: Keys to Effectively Using and Teaching Self-Hypnosis \nDates: 07/19/2024 -07/20/2024 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 10 \nContact: Holly Forester-Miller\, hollyforestermiller@gmail.com \nAbstract:\nThis workshop is designed to help you improve your self-hypnosis skills and your skills to effectively teach self-hypnosis to your clients/patients. Self-Hypnosis is a wonderful tool for expanding possibilities. Learn how to better suggest the outcomes you and your clients’ desire so that you can expand the possibilities for change and healing. \nIn this workshop we will explore three keys to effective self-hypnosis; education\, motivation\, and effective suggestions. Participants will practice teaching self-hypnosis and have the opportunity to discuss common myths and misconceptions. The concept of implicative language will be discussed and participants will hone their skills at developing suggestions for the outcomes they desire and how to apply that to theirs and their clients’ issues and concerns. We will look at a variety of issues including performance enhancement\, sleep\, habit\, anxiety\, creativity\, and physical healing. The presenter will use case examples from her own and her clients’ uses of self-hypnosis. This will be an interactive workshop\, so come ready to as Kay Thompson\, DDS used to say “Practice\, Practice\, Practice”.

SUMMARY:Relational Hypnosis for Chronic Pain and Functional Disorders (Eric Spiegel\, Ph.D.)
DESCRIPTION:Website: https://eric-spiegel-phd.ce-go.com/relational-hypnosis-for-chronic-pain-and-functional-disorders \nEvent Title: Relational Hypnosis for Chronic Pain and Functional Disorders \nDates: 09/13/2024 & 9/20/2024 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 8.0 \nContact: Eric Spiegel\, espiegelphd@gmail.com \nAbstract:\nPain is inherently a relational experience. As Yapko (2020) and others note\, effective hypnotic suggestions come from our relationships with our patients. As David Patterson (2014) shares\, when asked by prospective patients if he can ‘fix’ their pain with hypnosis he replies “I don’t know if I can fix your pain\, but I can help you change your relationship with your pain.” This is a workshop all about identifying and utilizing the wealth of verbal and non-verbal interpersonal healing interactions ’embodied’ in the therapeutic relationship in the service of modeling and helping patients develop a healthier somatic relationship with their bodies. On the first day of this workshop\, applying principles of attachment\, participants will learn how somatic experiencing is an expression of self-relationship that develops from – and healed through – central relationships with attachment figures. We learn how to be with ourselves through how our central figures relate to us. Participants will learn how to incorporate the ‘basic ingredients’ of an attuned therapeutic alliance into varied hypnotic suggestions for pain relief. From there\, we will explore the association between affect\, soma\, and relationship\, and how relationship connection and safety can help release and ease trapped emotions in the body. On the second day of this workshop\, we will examine a variety of pain syndromes and functional disorders to consider how relational hypnosis treatment can be subjectively and effectively be utilized in the treatment of each. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUtilize principles of attachment & relationship to create a hypnotic scene for the purpose of modulating pain.\nList 5 questions from a relational assessment of chronic pain.\nExplain how to integrate principles of relational alliance-building & active-alert hypnosis in the treatment of chronic pain.\nExplain how to directly or indirectly utilize the therapeutic alliance in creating a hypnotic suggestion of safety in the treatment of a functional disorder.\nDifferentiate hypnotic treatment of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) from traditional chronic pain.\nList one relational hypnotic suggestion each in the treatment of a functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGID) & functional neurological disorder (FND) (respectively).

SUMMARY:Suggestive Therapeutics and Unconscious Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Oregon Society of Clinical Hypnosis (OSCH) \nWebsite: https://oregonhypnosis.org/event-5725436 \nEvent Title: Suggestive Therapeutics and Unconscious Intelligence \nDates: 09/28/24-09/29/24 \nLocation: In Person and Virtual \nCE: 12 \nContact: Cynthia Levesque\, Vicepresident@oregonhypnosis.org \nAbstract:\nPracticing as an Ericksonian therapist for over thirty years\, Dr. Short has a great deal of experience working with the client’s unconscious resources as well as conscious resources. After seeing that some clients (and some therapists) are uncomfortable with hypnosis\, Dr. Short began teaching others how to engage people’s unconscious intelligence in problem solving endeavors without requiring altered states of consciousness or formal trance induction. In this way\, the experience of free choice is maintained as the therapist guides the therapeutic endeavor using an invisible hand. \nThe research-based methods Dr. Short teaches rely mostly on creative imagination\, storytelling and symbolic imagery as well as strategic framing effects\, which are collectively known as choice architecture. These techniques\, which include: contrasting effects\, implementation intentions\, prediction\, reimagining\, and incubated cognition; are transtheoretical\, meaning that they can be incorporated into any school of thought. The presentation will also address the use of choice architecture in psychotherapy—a topic that is gaining a lot of research attention in behavioral economics. While this presentation will be of special interest to Ericksonian therapists and traditional hypnotherapists\, anyone practicing psychotherapy will find practical benefit from the techniques\, which can be used with or without hypnosis. \nDr. Short has a wealth of information on unconscious process work and its clinical applications. With these new skills\, participants will learn how to empower their clients with unexpected possibilities. This seminar will be an impressive mix of history\, live demonstrations\, inspiring clinical examples\, and opportunities for hands-on practice. \nLearning Objectives:\n1 . Judge the value of unconscious intelligence for clinical applications in contrast to traditional talk therapy. \n2. Debate methods to engage people’s unconscious intelligence in problem solving endeavors\, without the formal use of hypnosis or altered states of consciousness. \n3. Use predetermined criteria to judge eight different methods for engaging unconscious intelligence

SUMMARY:Fundamentals of Clinical Hypnosis (Bloom Therapy)
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Bloom Therapy \nWebsite: https://bloomtherapytx.com/service/fundamentals-of-clinical-hypnosis/ \nEvent Title: Fundamentals of Clinical Hypnosis \nDates: 10/18/24-10/20/24 \nLocation: Bloom Therapy\, 1206 W. 43rd St\, Austin\, TX \nCE: 21.50 \nContact: Katy David\, katy@bloomtherapytx.com \nAbstract:\nThe purpose of this workshop is to provide licensed mental health clinicians the foundational information and experiential practice necessary to begin integrating clinical hypnosis into their established skillset and clinical work with patients\, specifically in an outpatient mental health setting. The workshop is designed as a unique in-person\, small-group learning opportunity. The syllabus is designed so that the CE hours may count as the Level 1 Basic training that is a required component towards ASCH certification in Clinical Hypnosis. This workshop strictly follows the most up-to-date ASCH-ERF Standards of Training for a Level 1 workshop and proposes 21.5 hours of CE hours. \nThe curriculum includes all didactic educational topics and experiential group practice exercises required by ASCH-ERF in a Level 1/Basic Clinical Hypnosis Workshop. We will define hypnosis\, offer a brief history of hypnosis\, and correct common misperceptions about the natural process of hypnosis and brain state of trance. An overview of the neuroscience of the trance state will be offered. Participants will be shown various demonstrations of the hypnotic process\, utilizing both audience volunteers and video recordings of work with actual clients (with client consent). Each stage of the hypnotic process will be taught\, explored\, and practiced. The workshop will include four separate small group practice sessions\, with at least one practice session taking place on each of the workshop days. Special attention will be given to ethics\, treatment planning\, and integrating clinical hypnosis into clinical practice\, as these topics are especially relevant to mental health practitioners.
