SUMMARY:Tranceformation: Neurobiology\, Clinical Applications\, and Dissemination of Hypnosis
DESCRIPTION:Organization:  MSCH \nWebsite: https://www.msch.us/education/2024-annual-conference-with-david-spiegel-md/ \nEvent Title: Tranceformation: Neurobiology\, Clinical Applications\, and Dissemination of Hypnosis \nDates: 06/21/2024\, 06/22/2024 \nLocation: Virtual workshop \nCE: 12 \nContact: Jennifer Stoos\, jstoos@rekindlethespark.com \nAbstract:\nHypnosis was the first concept of psychotherapy introduced into Western medicine and psychology. While it has been shown to be safe and effective for more than two centuries\, hypnosis is an under-appreciated means of controlling consciousness with enormous therapeutic potential. We will examine the nature of hypnosis\, its efficacy\, brain mechanisms underlying it\, the importance of measuring hypnotizability\, and the uses of hypnosis for problems such as stress management\, enhancing focus\, improving sleep\, controlling pain\, stopping smoking and vaping\, treating phobias\, eating well\, dealing with grief and loss\, and treating traumatic stress. Novel means of dissemination involving interactive hypnosis apps that are making safe and effective hypnosis skill training widely available will be presented. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDefine hypnosis\, giving one example of what it is\, and one example of what it isn’t.\nOutline three components of the neurobiology of hypnosis\nDiscuss the importance of hypnotizability and describe one clinical measurement tool for hypnotizability\nOutline three important principles of treatment when employing hypnosis\nSummarize the evidence of outcomes for using hypnosis with three clinical problems\nExplain the potential impact of app-based dissemination of hypnosis\n\nMore Info

SUMMARY:A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to an Induction: When Humor Enhances Hypnosis
DESCRIPTION:Organization: The Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis (FSCH) \nWebsite: https://www.fsch.org/index.php/workshops/continuing-education \nEvent Title: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to an Induction: When Humor Enhances Hypnosis \nDates: June 9\, 2024 \nLocation: Virtual \nCE: 2.0 \nContact: mariefsch@aol.com \nAbstract: \nIt has been said that “laughter is the best medicine.” There is ample empirical evidence that humor promotes immune functioning\, enhances quality of life in cancer patients and nursing home residents\, and minimizes symptoms of depression and anxiety (Bains et al.\, 2015; Ko & Youn\, 2011; Kuru & Kublay\, 2017; Morishima et al.\, 2019; Takeda et al.\, 2010). Yet there is limited consideration or research regarding the inclusion of humor during hypnosis sessions (Thomson\, 2022). This two hour workshop will review the healing properties of humor for medical and psychological disorders and\, more specifically\, encourage participants to consider embedding (i.e.\, interspersing) humor during hypnosis sessions with their clients. Case examples and demonstrations will highlight the pairing of humor with hypnosis for enhancing “ego strengthening\,” embedded metaphors\, storytelling\, age regression/progression\, and post-hypnotic suggestions. \nLearning Objectives: \nAt the conclusion of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n1) Identify three (3) positive effects of humor for medical and/or psychological disorders. \n2) Identify at least three (3) ways to effectively incorporate humor into hypnosis interventions. \n3) Identify two (2) situations in which humor is appropriate and two (2) situations in which it is inappropriate.

SUMMARY:Level 1 Hypnosis Training
DESCRIPTION:This course offers a unique opportunity of learning and practicing clinical hypnosis in hybrid fashion. The majority of the course will take place in person\, enabling participants to practice techniques in small groups. The in-person format affords learners the ability to learn subtle skills of observation and attunement that are important for trance facilitation. Limited class size offers an intimate learning experience with maximum hands-on facilitation by the course instructor. Spreading the sessions over the two weeks allows participants to practice their skills and integrate the material into their practice. \nThe training will consist of didactic presentations\, demonstrations\, and experiential exercises in small groups where participants will have the opportunity to practice the skills they are learning and gain feedback. \nLeslie Laskin is a highly experienced clinical social worker and a respected figure in the field of hypnosis. With 15 years of experience of using hypnosis in her practice\, Leslie has developed a deep understanding of its transformative power. SUMMARY:Hypnosis for the Treatment of Developmental Trauma Disorders
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Alberta Clinical Hypnosis Society \nWebsite: https://www.clinicalhypnosis.ca/event-5402985 \nEvent Title: Hypnosis for the Treatment of Developmental Trauma Disorders \nDates: 05/17/2024-05/19/2024 \nLocation: In-person workshop \nCE: 19 \nContact: Louis Damis\, DrDamis@LouisDamisPhD.com \nAbstract:\nProlonged neglect and abuse are associated with attachment anomalies\, strong egosyntonic negative beliefs\, and dissociation that are not readily changed with CBT or cognitive hypnotic interventions. These underlying aspects of developmental trauma involve the implicit memory system and early learning that psychoanalysts call the unrepressed unconscious. \nThis workshop will delineate the role of implicit memory in trauma-related disorders and address strategies for modifying implicit memories not accessible through cognitive methods (Normative Implicit Clinical Hypnosis). Hypnotic and biobehavioral techniques for polyvagal-based interventions\, attachment repair\, and memory reconsolidation update will be integrated into a phase-oriented treatment model. Participants will learn how to establish the neurophysiological substrate for neuroception of safety and equip patients with the prerequisite skills necessary for mastery of traumatic and wounding experiences. \nApplication of exploratory techniques combined with memory reconsolidation update strategies to modify negative egosyntonic beliefs and transform traumatic memories will be delineated. Once adequate stabilization is attained and sufficient memory integration established\, treatment can focus on self-development and solidifying the sense of self. \nThe workshop will provide sufficient information for participants new to the advanced hypnosis workshops and more senior practitioners looking for specialized training in trauma\, complex trauma\, and attachment disorder applications. A comprehensive hypnotic approach\, including relevant non-hypnotic components\, will be outlined and taught through didactic presentation\, demonstration\, and dyadic and small group practice. \nLearning Objectives:\nParticipants will be able to delineate and apply the following: \n\nThe three components of the phase-oriented trauma treatment approach and specific hypnotic strategies for each.\nNormative Implicit Clinical Hypnosis.\nThe Polyvagal Theory\, its relevance to establishing a neurophysiological substrate for trauma processing and attachment repair\, and three strategies for generating neuroception of safety.\nExplain the importance of prioritizing neglect repair.\nThree hypnotic implicit memory modification strategies.\nThree strategies for accessing remote experiences associated with ego-syntonic negative beliefs and symptoms.\nThree strategies for memory reconsolidation updating specific traumatic memories.\n\nMore Info

SUMMARY:Turn Stressful into Restful: Enhancing Sleep through Self-State Strategies and the Art of being Hypnotic
DESCRIPTION:Organization: Lemke Counseling & Consulting \nWebsite: https://www.wendylemke-psy.com/stressful-into-restful \nEvent Title: Turn Stressful into Restful: Enhancing Sleep through Self-State Strategies and the Art of being Hypnotic \nDates: May 9\, 2024 \nLocation: Virtual Workshop \nCE: 3.0 \nContact: Wendy Lemke\, wendylemkelp@gmail.com \nAbstract:\nSleep\, often overlooked in our fast-paced lives\, plays a pivotal role in maintaining optimal psychological and physical health. Even with the understanding of its profound impact on mental and physical wellness\, many still struggle with getting the slumber they need. \nMany psychological disorders contribute to sleep challenges\, especially in the field of trauma. Research shows that treating sleep can help PTSD but treating PTSD doesn’t necessarily help sleep\, thus all trauma treatment should include a sleep component. \nBy utilizing an Ego State Therapy approach combined with hypnotic strategies and language we can explore the unconscious and work with states of self that have inner wisdom about the cause\, maintenance\, or even the solutions to getting a more restful sleep. In addition to making sure the whole-self is prepared for a more restful sleep\, we will also explore the importance of self-language and hypnotic components that can either block or enhance our ability to sleep well. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDefine the importance of sleep in psychological and physical health\, especially for those who struggle with PTSD and/or Dissociative Disorders.\nExplain and demonstrate at least three Ego State Therapy Strategies to employ for improving/enhancing sleep.\nExplain and demonstration Ego State Therapy Strategies for nightmares to prevent sleep dread.\nIdentify three unconscious potential barriers to restful sleep and therapeutic ego state strategies to manage them.\nIdentify and develop strategies for defeating/harmful self-statements that often-become fixed hypnotic suggestions utilized by self or self-states that interfere with restful sleep.\n\nMore Info

SUMMARY:Hypnosis for Chronic Pain Management
DESCRIPTION:Organization: New England Society of Clinical Hypnosis \nWebsite: www.nesch.org \nEvent Title: Hypnosis for Chronic Pain Management \nDates: May 4-5\, 2024 \nCE: 14 hours \nContact: Staisha Santungwana\, neschMSC@gmail.com \nAbstract: \nThis workshop will provide an overview of hypnotic strategies and suggestions for helping individuals better self-manage chronic pain conditions.  It will begin with a discussion of the role that the Behavioral Inhibition and Activation Systems play in hypnotic responding. This will be followed by a presentation of the neurophysiology of nociception and pain\, focusing on nine specific processes and physiological structures involved in pain perception\, all of which can be influenced by hypnotic suggestions.  Evidence regarding pain’s impact on other functioning domains (e.g.\, activity level\, sleep\, mood) will be discussed\, and ideas for hypnotic suggestions and approaches for addressing all of these domains and processes will be generated.  A model for performing a thorough psychosocial evaluation of the outcome domains that hypnosis can benefit in persons with chronic pain will be presented\, and methods for developing a pain treatment plan based on this evaluation will be discussed.  Strategies for integrating hypnosis with other approaches with proven efficacy (e.g.\, cognitive therapy and Motivational Interviewing) to enhance overall treatment benefits will also be covered. The emphasis of the workshop will be on applied clinical techniques; demonstrations\, exercises and the opportunities for group consultation will be included.  After participating in the workshop\, participants will have the resources and skills to evaluate a patient with chronic pain for hypnosis treatment and design a treatment plan that addresses the various problems identified. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIdentify the role of Behavioral Inhibition and Behavioral Activation systems for developing a tailored pain treatment plan.\nApply research in findings regarding “seeding” to enhance response to clinical suggestions.\nDesign tailored and targeted hypnotic suggestions to maximize the benefits of hypnosis treatment based on current scientific knowledge regarding the neurophysiological basis of pain for designing\nCreate an effective relaxation hypnotic induction.\nCreate an effective “Favorite place” hypnosis induction.\nIdentify the cognitive and behavioral factors that influence pain for designing hypnotic suggestions that help clients shift from maladaptive to adaptive cognitive processes and pain coping behaviors.\nUtilize a thorough psychosocial evaluation of the psychosocial factors influencing pain and functioning\,\nDesign a treatment protocol that addresses each factor.\nExplain the environmental\, physical\, and psychological factors that impact sleep quality in individuals with chronic pain.\nDesign an intervention for improving sleep quality in individuals with chronic pain.\nIdentify strategies to integrate cognitive therapy and Motivational Interviewing with hypnosis treatment to enhance treatment outcome.\nDescribe an effective age progression suggestion for increasing adaptive pain management behaviors.\n\nMore Info

SUMMARY:100-Hour Clinical Hypnosis and Strategic Psychotherapy Training
DESCRIPTION:The 100-hour online training program is divided into five phases\, each progressively building in intensity and complexity as we go along. Michael’s teaching is highly structured and organized. \nThe course is entirely virtual (online) and takes place over time to allow the natural process of learning to occur with experiential learning in-between phases. There is no substitute for the opportunity to take the skills back to your practice and have your own personal experience with your clients as you begin to integrate the newly learned skills. Then\, you can come back to the next phase of the training with relevant questions and experiences. \nIn every phase\, the emphasis is on practicality: What are the practical implications of concepts being taught\, and what are the techniques derived from these insights? How can they be incorporated into your sessions? \nThere will be structured practice sessions in every phase; after all\, the primary goal of the entire training is to give you the tools needed to integrate hypnosis skillfully into your clinical practice. There will be didactic presentations on key topics\, live and video demonstrations\, and ample opportunity for addressing questions and discussing the finer points of presented material.
