A diverse faculty from a range of health disciplines will teach the principles and process of hypnotic inductions\, suggestions\, and treatment. The workshop is a mix of didactic presentations\, demonstrations\, experiential exercises\, and faculty-led small group practice tailored to the specific needs and learning styles of each participant. At the conclusion of the workshop participants will have been taught the basic skills required to utilize clinical hypnosis and begin to apply it to their practice. \nLearning Objectives: \nAt the completion of the workshop\, the participant will be able to: \n\nDescribe the nature of hypnosis and how to present it to a client\nIdentify major myths and misconceptions\nIdentify three intrinsic brain networks modified by hypnosis\nDescribe the relationship of hypnosis to memory and pseudo-memory\nApply three basic hypnotic inductions and three deepening methods\nBe able to reorient and re-alert the hypnotic subject\nUse hypnosis for relaxation\, ego-strengthening\, and stress management\nTeach self-hypnosis to clients\nIdentify relevant clinical treatment goals\nDemonstrate treatment planning and selection of goals appropriate for hypnotic intervention\nDescribe contraindications for using hypnosis\nDescribe ethical considerations around the use of hypnosis

The workshop will comprise four subsections on distinct topics\, including contemporary research on hypnotic responding and the cognitive neuroscience of hypnosis; the relations between hypnosis\, suggestion and psychopathology; current state of the evidence regarding the clinical efficacy of hypnosis; and the relevance of hypnosis and suggestion for scientific research on\, and clinical applications of\, psychedelics. Each subsection will conclude with a brief consideration of the implications for therapeutic applications of hypnosis. Upon completing the module\, attendees will have a good understanding of contemporary developments in the field and be positioned to critically evaluate this work. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDescribe recent developments in the measurement of hypnotic responding.\nExplain the principal features of predictive processing accounts of hypnosis.\nSummarize current knowledge regarding the link between hypnosis and psychopathology.\nEvaluate research papers describing clinical interventions involving hypnosis.\nDescribe the clinical efficacy of hypnosis for different symptoms and conditions.\nAssess the role of suggestion effects (hypnosis\, placebo\, and nocebo) in response to psychedelics.\nIdentify ways by which hypnosis and psychedelics can be integrated in experimental research and clinical practice.
