Associated Therapists of Rockland, Leslie Laskin

Hybrid Zoom and In-Person

This Level 1 training will provide an understanding of the concepts underlying the foundations of hypnotic trance and its clinical applications. The training will consist of didactic presentations, demonstrations, and experiential exercises in small groups where participants will have the opportunity to practice the skills they are learning and gain feedback. The format will consist of two 3.5 hour online sessions and two 7.5 hour days in person. The format of spreading out the training over several weeks will afford students time to apply skills in their clinical practice and address difficulties that can arise in doing so. In addition to providing readings and didactic presentations on the neuroscience of hypnosis, the course will emphasize the importance of rapport and attunement throughout the hypnotic experience. Students will learn at least three approaches to elicit trance as well as identify trance phenomena that indicate the presence of a trance state. Emphasis will also be placed on the importance of re-alerting and reorientation, how to facilitate this and how to determine when patients are fully reoriented. Students will learn and demonstrate at least three techniques for trance intensification, including fractionation and utilization of the clients unique trance experience. Principles of hypnotic communication including pacing and leading, tance logic, metaphor, and utilization will be covered.
