Description: This is a sojourn into the world of dental hypnosis that will address infrequently discussed topics along with the commonplace. These include the various stakeholders’ perspectives, practice integration, validation for using hypnodontics, compassion and its fatigue, as well as why clinicians use hypnosis. Phenomena, applications, and techniques will be reviewed. Trance abuse will be touched upon and the insights of hypnodontists, well-known and less well-known, past and present will be covered. To further underscore the use of hypnosis in dentistry one has to understand why clinicians use it - especially progressive ones. Along with these concepts practice integration, marketing, philosophies of practice, dentally useful definitions of trance and hypnosis, trance abuse, therapeutic communications, dental applications, and hypnotic phenomenon are covered. Stakeholders are: the patient, the dentist, the hygienist, the assistant, the treatment coordinator , and the receptionist - each has a perspective for which hypnosis is a personal and professional solution. There are a lot of issues for ASCH in this concept alone - who can be trained, be a member, etc.
Learning Objectives:
- Define their own practice philosophy and how hypnosis fits into it.
- Describe dental hypnosis applications and have insight into how to integrate hypnosis into their practice.
- Explain practice management concepts relating to the use of dental hypnosis.
Presenter: Dr. Gabor Filo, DDS, ABHD
Bio: Dr. Filo is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hypnosis in Dentistry, a Life Fellow of ASCH, and an Honourary member of the Canadian Society of Clinical Hypnosis – Ontario Division, and the Hungarian Association of Hypnosis. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Filo has been ardently involved with hypnosis and dental hypnosis since 1984 presenting nationally and internationally both in the Hypnosis world and at major North American dental conferences. His expertise is the rapid induction of hypnosis. Currently, he is still in private practice.
